My old man's a white old man
And my old mother's black.
If ever I cursed my white old man
I take my curses back.
If ever I cursed my black old mother
And wished she were in hell,
I'm sorry for that evil wish
And now I wish her well
My old man died in a fine big house.
My ma died in a shack.
I wonder were I'm going to die,
Being neither white nor black?

This is also a form of a poetic device call Denotation and Connotation. In this poem it show\'s what his feelings/Connections were between his old man \"white\" and his old mother which turns into ma \"black\". and where he is confused of where he might be going or should go too.

I believe this poem is quite interesting it deals with the cofusion that a multi racial child goes through. That search for identity and acceptance. This was very true in the times of slavery, those children who were white and black, how where they to know where they should be. This is also true with immigrants that have two cultures, how do you balance? where are you from?
