Western writers wanted a new way of viewing the world. Many, like H.D., decided to get inspiration from Japanese haikus. They wanted to use the imagery to show their inspiration. Imagists are much like impressionists. They paint what they see and feel even if they've only seen the place once.

It is another of her impressionistic poems, inspired by "haiku", though it has a longer form. It describes simple, but beautiful elements of nature - sea poppies, wet pebbles. It also depicts the impression of colours (gold, amber...). Formally it is an innovative poem because it has no rhyme or traditional meter. A.R.
