Napoleon shifted,
Restless in the old sarcophagus
And murmured to a watchguard:
"Who goes there?"
"Twenty-one million men,
Soldiers, armies, guns,
Twenty-one million
Afoot, horseback,
In the air,
Under the sea."
And Napoleon turned to his sleep:
"It is not my world answering;
It is some dreamer who knows not
The world I marched in
From Calais to Moscow."
And he slept on
In the old sarcophagus
While the aeroplanes
Droned their motors
Between Napoleon's mausoleum
And the cool night stars.
i think that this is talking about the soldiers who faught in ww1, but at the same time, napoleon did not die in ww1. he is describing how bad it was though, and i think that he is kind of admitting defeat. when he says 'it is not my word answering, but a soldier who knows not what world i marched in from calias to moscow'he sounds like he is giving up.

My name is Bryant Strange and i believe the poem is saying how Napolean dead and gone remebers how hard he tried to conquer the world but failed when he states "the world I marched in from calais to moscow" seems to refrence one of his triuphant battles. Yet he still knows that because he was defeated so will the dreamer be defeated. Napolean may be dead and gone but he knows that in this world good is greater than evil. So the greater good overcame him after all and the same will happen to this dreamer. I also think the dreamer is hitler for 2 reasons, the time period suggest of a 40's because thats when it was written and the large amount of people 21 million is alot
