Bio:
Let's see... I was born... I survived to adulthood and now I'm trying to remember why.
Why I Write:
Growing up in a hostile environment I often found myself silently composing dialogue in my head that never escaped my mouth. I was the quiet one, shy, retiring, so fearful of the consequences of uttering the wrong thing at the wrong time that I hardly spoke at all, and when I did eventually chime in, like a broken coo-coo clock a couple of minutes after the hour my chiming was all too often off key and unfortunately singled out as it brutally burst into the sudden silence proceeding a change in conversation. I believe this is where I began my journey as a writer, though I had yet to take up the pen. First I was drawn to reading as a means of escaping my reality. I admired the easy effectiveness of the speech that poured so effortlessly from the characters drawn on the pages of each book I read. I envied their ability to converse without conflict, to know what to say and say it without days of deliberation. I longed to have the insight the writer’s seemed to have into effective human communication. Through writing I would move from escaping my reality to reshaping it. If I had to boil everything that compels me, to put pen to paper, I would have to say I write in order to say with more deliberation and liberation that which can not be said so easily or so well face to face.
