It has been over a year since I was at ES. I've written a LOT of poetry since then. I've been on other boards since then and now I'm back.

The forums are down. Oh, bother! Since practically no one reads my poetry or at least leaves comments, I usually only came here to argue on the debate forum page.
But I'll give it a try. Maybe my luck will be better the next time you clle. -------

Snow's gone, floods are gone - and a whole flock of robins was in my front yard yesterday! -------

Merry Christmas, my friends!
A CHRISTMAS GREETING
It's snowing and blowing,
the freeway's a parking lot.
I've still got shopping to do.
Ready for Christmas? I'm not!
The house is a mess,
decorating's not done.
Too many programs.and parties.
Baked cookies? Not one!
But I've slept by the Christmas tree
with a roomful of grandkids
who wiggled and giggled
with wide-open eyelids.
And I've taken snapshots
in front of the tree
of toothless first-graders
saying “Pizza” and “Cheese!”
I've sewed and I've painted
and wrapped presents aplenty.
I've spent ones and fives
and tens and twenties!
And now I must pause
to greet friends all around
and wish you all peace.
May your joy abound!
Midst all our busyness,
and economy frights,
the reason for this season
must be firmly in sight:
Our Savior exalted,
his birth proclaimed.
The angels sang anthems
to honor his name.
Let us bow in his presence
and in His love take part.
Let us celebrate the Christ
with grateful hearts.
Happy Christmas!! -------
Groan.

Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat.
I wish it were only the goose!

It has been a very long time since I've posted any poetry here on ES. The number and quality of comments I received was very discouraging, despite my own efforts. At the last, I just gave up and quit commenting because of the responses. It seemed that ES was becoming populated with people who only wanted to hear how good they were.
I've decided to give it one more try. I don't know if any serious writers are still here. It seems that many of them have left, perhaps because of the same things I encountered.
At any rate, I welcome any constructive comments concerning my poetry.

It simply escapes the grasp of my mind why some people think that calling others insulting names or cursing at them makes them appear more intelligent than the one who is the object of their "ridicule." Any fool can do that. The one with the higher degree of intelligence, wisdom and insight is the one who chooses to remain civil in times of disagreement, with the aim of convincing that one, as well as any others, to his point of view. Insults, sarcasm and ridicule are the tools of one without a valid argument. Restraint and civility will win the day.
