    Mood: The Usual

       Nothing
    (By Ken Mikolowski)

    can replace
    poetry
    in my life
    and one day
    surely
    it will

I feel like breaking or killing or laying in a dark room for a year.

But a friend needs to be distracted from something so I'm going to a club instead, where strangers will look at me like meat.

I hate this. I hate this. I hate this.

Reading this again and again. Because god forbid I forget how minute I am:

I am holding back, these days.
Like a child I keep yearning for someone to write me a poem.
Am I waiting for something? I am afraid, just a little, of the empty spaces my body is whelping.

       Things I keep in me:

    1.
Look at me from all angles,
I am a person composed entirely
    of a turned-away back.

What shape is a heart? It is
    the roundness of shoulders,
    the scapula's heavy curve.

    2.
I do not want. Full stop. Things
    happen to me, are done
to me. Passively, I am defined. Passively,
I am worn. Passively, I am soothed.

I don't remember what desire means. I do not have
    the desire to remember.

    3.
Long hours replace long hours. Nothing
gets done. Long hours find me thinking
of long hours, ad infinitum. I have come to know
such a circling world. I have come to know
    the damning pressure.

    4.
So it is that repetition suits me.

    5.
I spend a great deal of time sleeping.
    Just that. Motionless, breathing
only lightly. I clench my teeth
    till my jaw stiffens.

    6.
And I wake up, again and again. I am
    always asleep. I am always
    waking up in order
    to sleep.

I feel less that I am jumping off of things, and more that they never existed in the first place.

What words do you relate to most strongly?

I am not asking what your spirit animal is or some such silly crap. Just what you find yourself attracted to.

My list: wind, machinery, depths, hum, quiet, slant, dusk, hollow, moor.

       Things I am thinking:
    Emotions are not consensual.
There is distance between us and ourselves.
When people leave, bits remain inside us.
And that is the worst thing of all.
