one's not half two.  It's two are halves of one:

which halves reintegrating,shall occur

no death and any quantity;but than

all numerable mosts the actual more

minds ignorant of stern miraculous

this every truth-beware of heartless them

(given the scalpel,they dissect a kiss;

or,sold the reason,they undream a dream)

one is the song which fiends and angels sing:

all murdering lies by mortals told make two.

Let liars wilt,repaying life they're loaned;

we(by a gift called dying born)must grow

deep in dark least ourselves remembering

love only rides his year.

                           All lose,whole find

.: :.

Cummings presents a sonnet celebrating the blissful unity of love. As line 12 says,
\"we(by a gift called dying born)must grow
deep . . .:
This echoes familiar patterns in Cummings, as in \"anyone lived in a pretty how town\" where the love of the couple (anyone and noone) grows even greater after death. Cummings describes the couple buried side by side as \"deep by deep\" (\"anyone\" line 29) and \"more by more\" (\"anyone\" line 30).
Cummings uses the wonderful magic of love to make one out of two in the title and as the thesis of this poem. He uses it also in \"if everything happens that can\'t be done,\" another love poem that celebrates the unity and multiplication of value and joy love brings. The last line of that poem says, \"we\'re wonderful one times one,\" utilizing the mathematical truth that multiplication of one brings unity, while mere addition brings duality. The pun on \"wonderful\" (sounds like \"ONEderful\") reinforces that delight.
Lines 9 and 10 sound this theme, poijnting out that \"One is the song that fiends and angels sing\" - all, both demons and blessed long for love\'s deep healing. But \"all murdering lies by mortals told make two\" - lies, and murder, even hate (which is a form of murder)stand as the opposite of love, and so cannot make the \"one.\"
This premise of the poem is a Biblical allusion, one of many in cummings\' poetry. This particular theme, of course, alludes to Jesus\' words on marriage in Matthew 19:4-5. He quotes Genesis 2:24: \"He who created them from the beginning made them male and female and said, \'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and shall cleave to his wife and the two shall become one flesh.\" Cummings echoes this idea in many of his love poems, nowhere more beautifully than here.
