"I Thought of You" Analysis

Author: Poetry of Sarah Teasdale Type: Poetry Views: 1111

I thought of you and how you love this beauty,

And walking up the long beach all alone

I heard the waves breaking in measured thunder

As you and I once heard their monotone.

Around me were the echoing dunes, beyond me

The cold and sparkling silver of the sea --

We two will pass through death and ages lengthen

Before you hear that sound again with me.

.: I Thought of You :.

She and a loved one must have walked the beach before. They had listened to the waves together. Maybe they had even walked the dunes that were around her. Probably, hand in hand. Possibly, looking out over the water, with the sunset's reflection sparkling on the water's surface, listening to the waves roll in, while they hurry out of it's path so as not to get wet. It seems to me that she lost him to death and he wouldn't hear that sound with her again until she had passed too.
