| User | Lightbringer | | Topic | Stolen sentences | | Message | Take the first sentence, from the first page, of the first chapter, of your favorite book, and using the words in order write a poem taking those words in your own direction. For Example my Sentence comes from the novel Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. The sentence goes as follows "It was a nice day, all the days had been nice."
I wrote:
It had occurred to me before,
but this time was different.
A premonition of apocalypse,
hmm... wouldn’t that be nice.
Would it happen during the day?
or at night?
in the morning?
will it happen at all?
oh I do hope so
oh do hurry the anticipation is killing me.
How many days can they wait
those four ushers of the end
how many faces have they had?
horsemen?
avenging angels?
war, famine, pestilence, death?
Oh do come soon
come cleanse my soul
come scrub the earth
ask me how I’ve been
I’ll hold the door for you
if you want
wouldn’t that be nice?

I mean I’m not even sure if I do. Let me get this straight. You want to take a sentence from a book you like and write a poem using the words from that sentence. But you don’t just use those words. You use alot of other words too. It’s just those words are strewn in there in places.
okay....i guess dude. whatever.
no offence but that seems kinda lame.
P.S. some other good books by Neil Gaiman are Neverwhere as well as Stardust and American Gods. Also he wrote a great graphic novel series entitled the Sandman. I haven’t got around to reading any Terry Pratchet so I couldn’t tell you about that one, i’ve been infatuated with re-reading the wheel of time by R. Jordon.

| User | Lightbringer | 2004-10-22 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Why do people say they’re going to do something and then they don’t do it? If you don’t want to add onto my challenge just say so. Don’t tell me you’re going to and then not do it. Oh well what can I do. |

| User | Lightbringer | 2004-10-02 | | | Subject | I'll do it myself | | Message | Since no one has responded to my writing challenge I’ll just respond to it myself. Here goes......this sentence is from a Terry Pratchett novel called "The Light Fantastic" is goes as follows.....
"The sun rose slowly, as if it wasn’t sure it was worth the effort."
The rays of light
cascade over the earth
turning it into textured gold
like drops of the sun
making the world look
as if through rose colored glasses
slowly but surely
the darkness fades away
as if it knew
it would have it’s turn again soon
night turning to day
as if time wasn’t a factor
steadfast
sure
it is the heartbeat
of our existance
everything that is
or ever was
upon gazing at this spectical
seems worth the effort." |
