| User | goveiac | | Topic | Why so unhappy? | | Message | ok listen, im soooooo sick and tired about reading all these shitty poems written by 17 year old white kids. Life is about taking the absolute worst in the world and seeing through it and feeling an unaquired inspiration and hope. There are like 30 million people in Afirca with AIDS, 300 000 African will today because of hunger, and these fuckin idiot brats are whinning about their girlfriend/boyfreind who broke up with them after they have been together for three months. Writting shit like "black, pain, death, blah blah blah" add nauseum. fuckin crack a smile you loser or do the rest of us a favor blow your god damn brains out. For real. |

| User | qwicksilfer | 2008-06-17 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | I’m going to agree with you there. There are so many poems written about stuff like cutting yourself and just wanting to die. But it’s also perfectly normal. I grew up in a good life, and I had lots of angst and wrote depressing, crappy poetry. Yet, I also agree with you that there is much worse out there. Look at Myanmar and their government that would rather let their own people starve and die of disease than accept foreign help!)
Hell, you don’t even have to go outside your own country. What about all the kids in the land of plenty going to bed hungry tonight? What about all those elderly people that can’t afford their prescriptions, or have to move back in with their kids? What about all those people that are getting laid off, and have to look their families in the eye when they tell them there’s no money? What about a President who sends 17 year old kids with angst off to fight a war he lied about?! A war that was unnecessary. Who thought they were going over there to do good, but instead get blown up while fixing a tire?!
But your teen years are all about the angst and what the future holds and how to cope with things. It’s just a part of life. Eventually we overcome the angst and find our own identity. Just please, don’t ACTUALLY cut yourself, however sad and depressed and lonely you may feel. :-) Talk to someone your own age. They will have felt the same way at some point. DON’T go talk to a teacher. EVER!
I’m shutting up now. |

Thanks for the advice. |
| User | leolibbyII | 2008-05-11 | | | Subject | ... | | Message | Also, you are showing lots of immaturity. Try judging the writing for iself, don’t have hate-oriented temper tantrums. It is not constructive. Maybe you are jealous of their poems? |
| User | leolibbyII | 2008-05-11 | | | Subject | .. | | Message | You are being a hypocrite by using racial slurs and obscene language, but I agree with your point. I don’t like to read most stuff. It has to engage me and I have to relate. Many young people write to sound profound, deep. I was like that once. For me good writing is earthy, natural and not self conscious, and never tries to be clever.
"Good writing" is only like 5% mastery of the English language, and the rest is the "life experience" the writer has to give him voice and clarity. |

if you disagree with the freedom then maybe you should go [[back]] to Africa and help them, since you’re obviously so concerned. stop wasting your time complaining about other ppl.

| User | GoKart Mozart | 2007-10-23 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | we’re in america, it’s called freedom of speech (or rather, of literature)
if you dont like what some people are writing or how they write, then dont read it.
you have the freedom to do that and i ASSUME you have the ability -.-
who are you to tell someone what to do with their life.
poetry is about expressing oneself.
if you cant respect that then you shouldn’t be here.
maybe you should "do the rest of us a favor blow your god damn brains out. For real."
get a life and stop whining about other people and their feelings and their lives just because your heritage or country or select favorite people are suffering in other ways. |
| User | Raivn | 2007-10-21 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | It’s called literary freedom...you are free to write about whatever you want...what noble subject should everyone be writing about, according to you? |

| User | Stygian | 2007-09-27 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Like the first person to reply to this, regardless of popular belief, I’d have to say that one should deal with what’s going on in his or her own life, even if it means writing a horrendously awful poem about it, before he or she even tries to make a difference or make a statement about another issue in the world.
While I agree that there are too many pieces of depressing poetry, a lot of teenagers write about the here and the now. Like someone else said-- if your significant other just dumped you, would YOU write about the starving children in Africa? No, you wouldn’t. It’s not what’s on your mind then and there. |
| User | ariesmind | 2007-04-22 | | | Subject | u have no heart | | Message | Okay either you are very young or just immature..
Poetry doesnt fit into any boundaries..Who gives a hoot about dying kids in Africa when your hurting..seriously..How does that personally affect you....people are starving in your own country..take care of home first. And if you have enough heart and wisdom to write about world events and things of that nature..then you would know that a child writing about what bothers him/her(no matter how petty it may be to you) is necessary to personal growth...
But ur entitled to your opinion...ciao |

But yeah I am 15 and white, but I dont write that much about depression, in fact I rarely do. And I dont appreciate you bringing race into this. Plus if we are depressed, it doesnt mean we are ignoring people in Africa. Believe me, I have friends who live there, and I think about them all the time, hoping they are ok. So could be please stray away from these stereotypes.
And once again, if you dont like the teen-angst, then dont read it. |
| User | UnderINK | 2007-04-10 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | So you’re saying that everyone should try writing about AIDS in Africa? Honestly, it’s kind of odd that you pointed out that they’re white kids. You don’t really know their race. I’ve seen some pretty emo black kids. . . they’re called gangsters, whining about the ’ghetto’ and their bullet wounds. Your stereotype is no better than that. Maybe they should start rapping about AIDS. I mean, just because there are big problems doesn’t mean everyone wants to concentrate on them. Teenagers are depressed because of hormones. They can’t really help it. They’re in a tight situation in society nowadays where there’s a lot of pressure on them to not be failures and where they seek a lot of independance due to the growing focus on rights and freedom. They go through phases. Their writing isn’t harming you, they just want someone to relate and feel like they’re not fucked up and have disorders like everyone tells them they do, that most teenagers tend to go through moody stages like that. Some just vent through writing. Big deal. Let them vent, because if you take away their right to write about their problems, they’ll find another way to vent it and you’ll probably like that even less.
If Africa wants to fix itself they can stop fucking and having so many children and spreading the god damned virus. There, problem fucking solved. |
| User | ImperfectGirl1 | 2007-04-08 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | People always seem to wrte better when they are complaining..well atleast i do. i find that my poems ALL seem to be complaining or depressing. when i try to write happy or uplifting ones they never turn out right. SO if a person doesnt like them then they should just say WHY the poem doesnt work and tell what to do to make it better...OR they could just not read the poems at all. I mean do the people who hate teens complaing ALWAYS write about children with AIDS or people in need?..do they ever complain? I mean, how can a person say they hate people complaining in their poems and then sit here a complain about people complaining...kinda contradictory.. I mean that if it is easier for a person to get their anger out in their poems and it is easier for you do to it here then fine but let people feel comfortable writing what they want how they want.
That may sound a little circular, but it kinda makes sense |
| User | itsjustme22 | 2007-02-18 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | you’re a fucking hater. no one fucking cares about your fucking opinion on who should be writing about what. I agree with lark, go save Africa and stop fucking complaining about teenage poetry. get a life. |
| User | dawnschild | 2007-02-12 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | It’s really very simple....don’t read it. I can’t stand to read that crap either, so I don’t. Sift through the site, there’s a lot of great stuff on here believe it or not, it isn’t all just teenage/angst poetry. Still, you need to be careful about who you insult. Also, you can’t speak for the rest of us, I don’t want any kid killing themselves as a "favor" to me. Seriously, depressed little children, write your poetry, others like you will relate to it. They will enjoy it and discover it’s meaning. Everyone thinks they have good taste, but if that were true than no one would own a pair of spandex. Trust me, I’m from the Midwest, there’s plenty of spandex in the world. |
| User | lark | 2007-02-05 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | goveiac stfu. plain and simple. god forbid others have problems and fears. no it may not be aids or cancer but whats important to someone may not be to you so dont act as if these 17 year olds or anyone for that matter should listen to your tired ignorant advice. go save africa if your so damn concerned about them but leave everyone else the hell out of your little rants. |
