| User | DARADLEFT | | Topic | Writing a story? | | Message | Hi! I am new here. I did not know any better place to introduce myself, so here I am. I would like to learn how to write a story about my pet bird. I am 44 years old, but have the heart of a child. I would like to know what the proper parts or components of a story are.It has been said that I have a good vocabulary and that I am eloquent so perhaps it is time to begin writing.
Also, I would like to know how to organize the bits and pieces of my story. Is there a way to begin? I have no idea. I have never been much of a reader though I am an avid listener and have much to say concerning many areas including politics, health, and even spirituality.
I look forward to being a part of this forum.Help me tell a story of a very demanding little bird named Rita. |

The first step to creating a story is deciding what the problem will be, and how that problem will be solved.
2. You need character development throughout the story. Don’t just pile in all of the character’s information in the first paragraph. Have her grow and learn throughout the story. This applies to most characters, not just the main character. If the character shows up in more than one scene, there is an opportunity for character development.
3. The lead (opening sentence or paragraph) must grab the reader. This can be through an interesting description, action, dialogue, anything.
4. The classic rule: Show, don’t tell. Example: instead of saying ’Rita flew’ say something like ’Rita spread her sturdy wings and, with a few brisk flaps, was bolstered up by the air currents.’ Use descriptions instead of blatant statements. Literary devices are also handy for this (metaphors, similes, personification, etc).
Good luck! If you need, I would be glad to peer edit for you.
