 Topic  Insomnia
Message  I would like to know if anyone else out there suffers from the occasional bout of insomnia and what you do to get yourself out of it- or just what the hell you do when you cannot sleep. Give me your favorite home remedies, teas, special rituals that help you wind down, etc. I am desperate. Magnicat suggested taking a calcium tablet with warm milk, what else is out there? I don’t want to have to medicate myself. Any advice would be so appreciated. - Magnolia

Message  Meditation and, if anyting at all is even kinda bothering you, write it down. when you meditate- total silence. make your mind see only black, don’t think about only seeing black just SEE it. its hard to do at first but eventually it becomes part of the nightly ritual. this kinda only works for relaxation for most people but its how i get to sleep every night so....

Message  I might be to late to give a suggestion on this but have you tried listening to a recording of the ocean set to music I have one and it works so I’m told, though I actually wouldn’t know being deaf an all, will actually i had one I loaned it to one of my cousins and i guess they figured I’d never want it back since i can’t hear it but she did tell me it works like a dream anyway thats all I have to say.

Message  I’ve got the same thing going on with me. Though I think it’s different for everyone the things I’d say to do would be:

Avoid the TV/computer for at least 30 minutes before you intend on sleeping.
Take a hot relazing bath.
Have a 10 minute ’think session’ before you actually sit down to go to bed, and just think some things through.
Meditate! It puts everything in perspective and sooths you.
Plan out exactly what you’re going to wear for the next week (or longer, if you still can’t sleep). Or plan out something equally as mundane and poitnless.

I don’t know if I’ve been any help, but try those and it just might help you a bit.

Message  Get up and walk around so you don’t train yourself to lie awake in bed, then tough it out the next day.
Caffeine is a drug, so do some aerobics to wake up, or go find a large poisonous snake and scream at it.

Message  Read a school book. Keep reading the school book. Don’t stop. Bore yourself to sleep. Works every time.

Message  You know what you should try? Putting a candle (those ones in the glass jars) on a little plug-in coffee mug warmer. It makes the wax melt and gives off the scent, but there’s no actual flame to worry about. You can leave the warmer on for days and your house will smell just lovely...
The only thing is, it takes little while. But totally worth it!

Message  no..no wolfstar, it isn’t. I like to sleep in dark and a little light will encourage my overactive mind to indulge into reading a book till wee hours of morning. So, just when I am falling asleep, i would blow off the candle and go to sleep :)..it’s not the same with music. it’s on till i switch it off in the middle of the night when i want to have a cold chocolate drink/cold water/or probably the leftover pasta ;)

Message  lavender oil in yer bath mate, before you get your bean down (on a hop filled pillow).
also write down a list of what you’ve done during the day and another of what you want to do the following day, so that you won’t need to think about these things during your bedtime. Hasta.

Message  insomnia..? i used to have it really bad.. now it just comes and goes... here’s a good tea.. if you can get the ingredients... i’m one that thinks that you can solve most problems with a tea...

Mix the following ingredients:
1 tsp. chamomile flowers.
1 tsp. hops.
1 tsp. valerian root.
1 cup of boiling water.
Steep for 45 minutes, strain and drink 1 hour before bedtime.

Message  Oh yes, also, which way does your bed face? If it is not parallel to east-west then you will have more trouble sleeping (it’s supposed to run east-west in coordination with the path of the sun, supposedly).

Message  Thanks for the advice WolfStar- sometimes it just helps knowing someone else out there is going through the same thing. I am very open to herbs- I use them religiously- I actually need to refresh my sleep pillows, maybe I will do that tonight. I work at a metaphysical bookstore and everyone there swears by Valerian root- but I have a very delicate system and you have to be so careful whenever you ingest herbs. I have many magic books as well...maybe it is time to tackle this on a cosmic leve. Thanks again-Magnolia
