| User | Zabriel | | Topic | Okay...this is wrong | | Message | Okay, so I’m a little stressed out. I just got a negative comment on a bit of prose. I would almost call it abusive. It was a bit of socio-politcal and religious commentary presented in what I felt was a professional and artistic style. I recieve a comment from a gentleman telling me to get my sh*t together because he didn’t have to read it to know how messed up it (and I) was. What do I do? What do you do when somebody just decides to be a jerk and comment without reading? This was a valid piece I think and although it was highly opinionated, I think it deserves to be read before it’s bashed. I don’t think anybody deserves that sort of disrespect, and I would never do that to the gentleman who left this comment.

While it was wrong of this guy to make such comments, especially when he hadn’t even read the piece, honestly, this isn’t as bad as A LOT of the stuff I’ve read from commenters on this site. Sad to say that, but it’s the truth. If you get enough of it, your skin begins to thicken.
This is not to excuse his post. It was totally offbase. But I wouldn’t worry about it if I were you. From reading your journal, you have other things to worry about. Don’t waste your time on this guy. mae |

| User | abuzzbuzz92 | 2006-08-20 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | If you don’t want to see the comments, then maybe you should delete the piece and re-post it. But then, you would lose all the comments you have gotten on them. It’s up to you on that. |
| User | BusterLILblock | 2006-08-15 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | umm you should ignore him |
| User | Zabriel | 2006-08-15 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Thanks eowyn. I put him on my ignore list, but I still see the comment everytime I look at that piece. It’s rather annoying, but I’m getting over it. Although I would like to have that comment removed. |
| User | eowyn | 2006-08-15 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | personally, i think just ignore it. those commetns arent even worth reading. whoever wrote them is not being supportive, and if you ask me, its not what ES is about. |
| User | Zabriel | 2006-08-15 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Thank you so much for the technical suggestions on that piece. I was doing a lot of things at once and didn’t realize some of the mistakes I’d made in my writing. |
| User | Zabriel | 2006-08-14 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Thanks, I think I will use it. Though it bugs me that his comment ratio is so high when he gives such crap out. :(
Oh well. Nothing I can do about that. |
| User | alteredlife | 2006-08-14 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | To paraphrase: "because he didn’t have to read it to know how messed up it (and I) was. "
Ok, so this guy didn’t read it AND he tells you you’re messed up. You’re right, this was totally disrespectful and downright rude. If he’d actually read it and refuted you on what you’d written, then fair enough. But as for that... that’s just not worth your time.
The "ignore user" button is there for such cases. I’d use it. And try and read people’s 10 last comments if you can, to get a feel for what their commenting/critiquing style is roughly like.
There’s such a thing as a negative critique (that will most likely help you as a writer) but then there’s just totally negative bullsh.it with nothing to back them up except ignorance... and that was pure ignorance. |
