 Topic  Bad Poetry web sites
Message  Hello there my name is Colin and l have just joined this site.
Thanks to reading your list of bad or con poetry sites l have relised that l have been conned by a certain american supposed poetry site. I won’t bother to mention them because you probally alread know them oh all right then the international poetry society with their annual conference in Los Angeles whoo!. Does it actuall take place, are these experts they boast about really poetry professors etc?
Poetry.com is part of their group too is it not?.
This has obviously made me very wary now and l would like to ask some additional questions of you good people abou two other sites l contribute too in case they are suspect as well.
The first is called ’Allpoetry’ you are welcomed in as a silver memberand are given five days to join up at $5 or about £3 or there abouts in the UK where i live. They do not pressure to join but a little note comes up now i am over that first period telling me that other people are paying to keep the site going and l should consider either buying something from them or joining up. They also have a link to Poetry.com which has me worried. Can you confirm or reassure me that this site is ok.
The second site i am pretty sure is ok. Its called ’Poetry Shared’ Its a free membership straight away and no pressure at all has been put on me to buy or pay anything in fact l have been made very welcome and the comments on my poetry have been kind and critical and welcoming as they should be. But having read from you about all the other rogue sites, i really want to be very sure and my apologies to anyone from Poetry Sahred who might use tjhis site as well for any doubts but in a world where we get ripped for most things its better to be absolutely sure and then take a full part in the sites activities. Best Wishes Colin Douglas.

Message  Thanks my friend that is a great relief. Becaause as you know its so easy to be conned by scam sites and it makes me angry that they exist at all, but there we are thats the freedom of the internet. Thank goodness for good sites such as this one, where you don’t mind sharing your work.
Once again many thanks and i will try the google and scam method as you have suggested. Colin

Message  I think those two sites are fine Colin. I used to be a member of AllPoetry.com... and I had free membership. The paid membership merely entitled you to access more stuff, that’s all.

As for that other site, it seems like a critiquing site much like this.

I think, if you’re wary about a certain site, then just google it with the word ’scam’ after it... that should pull up a few things about it.

It’s only those sites who deal in ’vanity publishing’ like Poetry.com that you should be dubious about...
