 Topic  give/take ratio
Message  I think that people who cannot maintain 100% comment ratio should not be aloud to submit until they are. That is the bare minimum and if you cannot even give as much as you recieve then it’s pretty pathetic.

I’m so tired of hearing all the stupid exuses:

I have a life to maintain...

I’m really busy lately...

I am no good at crit...

GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!

The above excuses only apply if you have not been submitting your own so called masterpieces for the came crits that you are not bothering to give. FIENDS.

I don’t care if your God’s personal gift to poetry, you don’t have a right to be so selfish or self-centered.

thats my word, and no stupid excuse is going to change that.

peace,
mister fizzle

Message  Well, we’re SUPPOSED to only be able to post two, but for the last while people can easily post more.

Message  If a new member posts a poem, gets 4 comments, and replies to six poems, then his ratio would be 150%, and that seems more than fair. If a member has been here awhile, gets 20 comments on a post, and replies to six poems, he’d only be operating at about a 33% ratio. Both did the same thing. To me it seems like a penalty for being popular. (I won’t say for being good, that remains to be seen, but popular, sure.) I think the ratio should run off number of pieces posted, not how many people left a comment saying they liked it. Now if you want to get me started, lets talk about people who don’t thank you for a comment, or people who post four poems in one day.

Message  the thing about the give/take ratio is that it’s just a number. a quantitative measure. it doesn’t calculate into the equation the helpfulness or the time and effort or the thoughtfullness of that person’s comments on other people’s work. i get a lot of comments on my stuff that aren’t helpful or had time put into it, or that tell me anything about how they felt about my piece, and i usually ask for thoughts on my work, nothing demanding like "critique", etc. but the people who leave me such comments get one more for their ratio anyhow. so while i understand your frustrations, because there are some people on this site who don’t give at least some quality comments and keep posting work at a breakneck speed, i don’t think it’s fair to apply that "selfish" title to everyone.

Message  Fizzle... I think you have a point but... so what? How does this affect you? Some people post less comments because they just don’t feel they have much to offer on other poetry if it’s not to their liking. We can’t force people to comment because it’s not up to anyone to decide how well received their work is. If someone receives twenty comments on their posts, well, no one ASKED for twenty comments. The reciprocation is an indicator of a user but it’s not something I ever take too seriously.

Comments are good but I’d rather get a few meaningful ones from people who comment less, but more thoroughly than a bland platitude of four lines from someone who doles ’em out like poetry’s going out of style...
