| User | Mister Fizzle | | Topic | RadioHead Wisdom | | Message | It’s pretty funny you know, I used to love the album Okay Computer by radiohead. When Kid A came out I was like wha??? WTF is this shit? I thought it was too bogged down with electronic sound and didn’t come close to the brilliance of the former album.
Just recently I broke out Kid A and started listening to it and I was like, wholly mother of GAWD!!!!This is the best thing since sliced bread!!! My favorite song probably being "idiotique". I then went on to listen to Amnesiac a few times that same day, which was the follow up to Kid A and came out only a year after.
The albums Kid A and Amnesiac in my opinion could have been a double album and I wonder if they are not related in some "concept album" type way.
Anyway I digress, the point is this. It is interesting how our opinions of music change as we grow older and experience new things in life. I would tend to think that our opinions of everything else changes in the same way. With this in mind it kind of makes me hesitant to have an opinion on anything at all, let alone form an opinion on anything without some carefull thought.
I don’t know, what do you guys think?
peace from the infinite abyss,

| User | cuddledumplin | 2005-03-08 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Yeah, I’ve done that too, but I liked Kid A immediately (Thom said that the sound of it was inspired by Agaetis Byrjun by Sigur Ros, on eof my favorite cd’s EVER). Everyone else I knew was like you. I was less enthusiastic about Amnesiac, but I liked it eventually (It’s still my second least favorite Radiohead cd after Pablo Honey though). Hail to the Thief isn’t the first one I go for, but it’s pretty good too.
I’m weird like that too. I’ll hate something and then like it. I don’t know why. |

that is the one thing i love the most about radiohead, that all their albums are so different, so vastly different, but you still know it is them. you are never listening to the same album like with rem or u2 where six albums sound the same [despite the fact that some are good].
people flipped after ok computer expecting them to release more of the same, but why would you try to better or continue an album when it just cant be done?
the best thing is to move on because you give the last piece more respect and you give the new piece a new level to start from and not a shadow to live in.
learah.
go for the bends first.
good place to start, most accessible but pretty deep once you get into it.
the most ’rocky’ in a conventional way with some great slower songs.
then get ok computer after that.
more experimental but not in a pretentious way.
still guitar driven but expansive, intelligent and creative.
by which time you will either hate them [which is unlikely] or be into them enough to find your way around the other four albums. |
| User | Learah | 2005-02-22 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Hmmm... I’m a bit off-topic but wanted to ask; what’s a good radiohead album for a beginner? I need a new band to listen to but I don’t really like today’s music. Lots of people have told me to get radiohead cds and have suggested albums but I’ve forgotten which ones they recommended. I’ve heard some songs... they seem pretty good but I need a whole album to plug in and start listening to religiously before I’ll really start to know if I like them. My favourite band is Alice In Chains, and Pearl Jam and the Stone Temple Pilots are my runners-up. Sorry to pull the topic off-focis, I’d appreciate suggestions tho. |

on another note thats neat to know those albums were recorded at the same time. It makes alot of since to me, and I could kind of tell just by listening to them. The funny thing is that Kid A is just off the deep end. Amnesiac starts to come back a little bit and then that seems to just really set the stage for their next album.
I’m glad someone finally knew about who I was talking about.
P.S. Pearl Jam rocks! |

indeed kid A and amnesiac were recored at the same time and thus a double album of sorts. they were going to release it as one, but did what they did in the end, which worked well, i think.
idoteque was my first ’favourite’ song of the album, but it changes regularly, which i think is the true sign of a great album; at the moment it is national anthem.
an to your point. i think this can be the way dependant on mood, or expectation. but it can also be just the fact that we dont properly look, or listen, or give things a proper chance. i hated ’yield’ by peral jam the first few listens but really enjoy it now, and i think i just needed time to understand it.
and the same can be said for poetry and writing. |

you guys have never heard of radiohead??? |
| User | mae | 2005-02-18 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | I have no idea who the band is that you’re talking about, we we’ll just skip all that excess verbage and get to the point of this forum - opinions.
Whether or not you think you should form an opinion about something, you will. It just happens unless you hide away in a cave somewhere. If you have a brain, you will have an opinion on any given subject. Now, you may be one of these open-minded people who try not to form an opinion until they are informed on a particular subject, but my guess is that even those people have a gut reaction to any topic.
In short, don’t worry your pretty little head about it. Opinions will come, no matter what we may say to the contrary. mae |
