| User | Emma_closes | | Topic | Writer's Block | | Message | Though I know that writer’s block is more of an internal sort of obstical, I’m wondering if anyone has any good tips or suggestions as to how to get over it. I’ve been suffering from a "creative blockage" for a couple of months and I’d really like hurry up and get rid of it ^^.
So, any hints you may have would be much appreciated! |

Tuck away not just interesting titles but other interesting lines, or even just words that come to you. Then go read someone else’s writing for a little while. Every now and then go back to your lines (I actually write them down. My brain is too old to trust to memory!) and see if one doesn’t inspire others.
A writer’s block, I’ve found, is sometimes just your mind’s way of telling you it’s tired. Maybe you’ve been writing like crazy, maybe you’ve been under a lot of stress, maybe you’re just distracted, whatever. It’s a good idea to just let it go for awhile. Try writing about the block itself, if you have to write. That’s always fun.

| User | magnicat | 2005-02-17 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | sometimes it’s good to just honor that block and let it be. worrying about it only seems to make it worse sometimes. my experience is that the muse always returns, sooner or later, and usually when you least expect it. if you insist, though, i suggest finding random phrases that would make a good title (i.e., i saw the title of a book, "I Shall Dress You In Mourning," about a bull fighter. it sounded interesting, so i filed it in my brain... a few days later, out popped a poem. it had nothing to do with the actual book, but i think it’s a good piece!) good luck! |
