| User | mae | 2005-06-30 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | "Isn’t it funny that a piece can have 26 views and 2 comments, that should tell the writer of the piece something"
That really is not an indication of quality on this site. Very often, it’s an indication of the reader’s laziness. As far as reading the same old stuff, instead of (or maybe in addition to) just reading the postings on the Elite Skills page, go to the account page and click on Random Member Profile under Interact. Then read the poetry of whoever comes up. You get out of your own comfort zone that way to reading all kinds of stuff.
As far as favorite writers, there are two that I consider top notch - Silverdog and wewak11. There are others, of course, but those two come to my mind immediately. mae |
| User | Rokhal | 2005-06-30 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Unfortunately Shanu is one of those ANNOYING people who delete all their work. Tides is up in smoke. |
| User | EternitysLyre | 2005-06-30 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Ask the person you admire; it will lead you to the loop of people you think can write. And that group is different for everyone.
But just for the sake of being opinionated, Myx and ishoes, Learah, mae. |
| User | Rokhal | 2005-06-27 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Read shanu. He’s got a series, Tides, about recovering from loneliness, and the poems sound great. Very symbolic, but not impenetrable. |
| User | misty_of_moon | 2005-06-26 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | i wish somebody liked me but i’m not that good, i write about the same stuff i guess, i dunno. as far as my favorites...six_grey, midnight rose, demon_666 and i don’t know there are a couple more but not enough to say that they’re a fav. |
| User | bluepifany | 2005-06-26 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | I am not even trying to deny that there isn’t great stuff here on the site...It is what has kept me around for a year plus...Hopefully this is just a funk and maybe we are just in some weird type of all inclusive writers block...I keep hanging in there looking for the diamond in the rough so to speak. |
| User | WolfStar | 2005-06-26 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | I’ve read some pretty original stuff out there... Not recently, but it’s there. There are some who will only write about how much life sucks, but to find the golden poems, it’s worth sifting through all the trash.
I try to challenge myself when I write. I try to use different viewpoints, try to see the world from a different age, gender, or race. I even wrote one where I was dead and watching everyone prepare my body and the funeral and all that.
But you’re right. Sometimes the angsty "I wanna die, life sucks, I’m broken, I’m depressed" type stuff is exactly that: depressing.
But my most recent one was a positive one. I’m proud to go against the grain. =) |
| User | bluepifany | 2005-06-26 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | It seems that we as "writers" have become complacent. We aren’t challenging each other enough to be original any more...Isn’t it funny that a piece can have 26 views and 2 comments, that should tell the writer of the piece something...This piece sucked and people are only popping in enough to read the first line and then moving on...We have to set a better example for the newbies so that they will produce quality work and stick around...B |
| User | Aknahlij_d 1 | 2005-06-25 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | i do think at times, the poems on ES look the same and days could go without seeing and original post. they just all seem to be about how bad life sucks, and although that is a major part of the "life-experience", there are other things to write about. it looks like the same old thing everytime i go through the new posts. that’s what this topic is for, i guess. for us to point out which writers write about something other than the same ole "life is bad" aspect. |
| User | WolfStar | 2005-06-25 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | what? |
| User | bluepifany | 2005-06-25 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Honestly,
Where’s the substance?
I feel like channel surfing but there is nothing on...B |
