He is a character created in the 1930s by a guy whose real name I can’t remember; the pen name is Kenneth Robeson. The books are so awsome! Doc is also known as the Man of Bronze; the books are actually kind of corny, old fashioned and laughable, but they’re so great!
He never got very well known because all the movies made about him were crap.
Here is and excert from the back of one of the novels:
"Who is Doc Savage?
To the world at large, Doc Savage is a strange, mysterious figure of glistening bronze skin and golden eyes. To his amazing co-adventurers--- the five greatest brains ever assembled in one group--- he is a man of superhuman strength and protean genius, whose life is dedicated to the destruction of evil-doers. To his fans, he is the greatest adventure hero of all time, whose fantastic exploits are unegualed for hair raising thrills, breathtaking escapes and bloodcurdling excitement."
Underneath all that, Doc is actually a fascanatingly flawed human being; he tries so hard to hide his inperfections and emotions; towards the end of his ’career’, he starts to trip up and lose control. And he is only half the fun; there is also his beautiful, feisty cousen, Pat, who looks just like him and always butts in on his adventures; Monk and Ham are the best; they are actually best friends, but they pretent to hate each other. Than there’s that pet pig.........
Well, I could go on forever, but go ahead and tell me if you know the books or would like to; my sister won’t go near them and I need to talk to someone whose read them! |
