| User | Seele | | Topic | Why? | | Message | Right this is starting to bug me now.
I click on ’writings’ every day and see post with about, lets say ’11’ views and ’0’, or if they’re lucky ’1’ comment.
Why do people do that?
What are your reasons for not bothering to comment on something someone has spent their time on to write?

| User | Seele | 2006-02-27 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Lol. Actually I comment every time. I study the person’s work carefully if no comments spring to mind instantly. When I was new to elite I didn’t always, but that was becasue I wasn’t too good at picking out points to make about people’s work.
Inspirit 999: ’And calling someone pathetic who wants to be treated humanly is complete BS!!’ I suppose that comment was aimed at me. Sorry I mucked up on my last comment, I didn’t explain myself fully. I shall retype what I meant to say...
Lastly, ok some people are a little sensitive about their work. If you bash it then they’ll be annoyed. Though, if you use constuctive critisism then they have no need to be. If some pathetic people can’t deal with critisism that will actually help them improve then it is their problem and why should those who WANT comments suffer.

| User | WolfStar | 2006-02-25 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Can you honestly say you’ve never done it yourself? Read something and then left no comment? Yes we shouldn’t do it, but I think a lot of us pretend like we don’t. I have, and sometimes I still do. I try not to as much as I can but bad habits are hard to break =) |
| User | inspirit999 | 2006-02-25 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | bashing a piece is onething but making it personal it another matter. it is better to use tact. And calling someone pathetic who wants to be treated humanly is complete BS!! |
| User | Seele | 2006-02-25 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | May I just say, mae, that can you honestly say that most of the comments you leave result in the other person being rude and agressive. Also it helps not to be too blunt.
Yes, say what you think, though don’t go about calling it rubbish. Be constructive. Tell them what’s wrong and suggest how to sort it.
Also, go through and find bits you like in their poem and add that to your comment.
Lastly, ok some people are a little sensitive about their work. If you bash it then they’ll be annoyed, but just because some pathetic little people can’t take that why should others that WANT comments to help them improve suffer? |

| User | inspirit999 | 2006-02-15 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | No it is more like a mental block, I really do want to comment more and help people but I am many times at a loss on what to say or I am blocked from commenting for that writer for some of the aforementioned reasons. |
| User | mae | 2006-02-15 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | inspirit, do you mean the site is blocking you from commenting on other people’s writing? mae |
| User | inspirit999 | 2006-02-14 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | well people have different reasons for not commenting. anyhow i dont think anything is a waste of energy as far as people writes are concerned. it is more like i am being blocked that hinders me. if i werent blocked i could comment on anything. |
| User | Sasha Lynn | 2006-02-14 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | I agree with mae but i must admit that i am just plain lazy from time to time. if something doesn’t jump out at me like an error or idea, i really have nothing constructive to say do i? meidocre poetry has its place and everyone has a right to post but commenting when you don’t feel a spark or drive to help is just stupid!

| User | mae | 2006-02-14 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Seele, you’ve been here less than a month, so perhaps you’ve not been hit between the eyes by flying hyperboles yet. Trust me, I’ve left comments, involved, constructive, in depth comments on those sorts of poems. In response, I’ve been called all sorts of interesting names, most not repeatable in polite company; been told where I can put my comments; and in general, ranted at because that person’s poetry is an expression of how they feel and I just can’t understand that.
It’s not a matter of being scared. It’s a matter of having better things to do with my time and energy.
And my critiquing someone’s horrible poem is not going to teach them that criticism is a good thing.

| User | inspirit999 | 2006-02-14 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Not everything is going to get a comment like they want, if it were a perfect site everyone would have those skills to be able to give out comment equally but sadly it isn’t so. There are many reasons why those comments are so low. That person may not be charitable themselves and others are just reading up on their work, or maybe that person is rude. another reason could be that the write is something that is hard to comment on; maybe it is too personal and deals with a tragedy that some folks are not prepared to address or maybe the write is too obscure, perhaps the write is an echo of an overused subject. I can think of many reasons why a write would not get so many comments. There are other factors as well, in my case I hesitate commenting on works that are labeled as something with meter since that is usually not my realm and I often pass those up, I usually leave those for people who specialize in that area. Also other more educated writers will often use a host of large words or very specific knowledge and that leads to less comments. I must say that no one should comprise their art but at least broaden their writings to cover a larger area so that they do not alienate readers. It should not always fall on the shoulders of the reader to give the comment, writers must have the means to try to write about many things and not box themselves into a certain style or subject. You have to have time on this site to understand these things and on most of them you just have to experience these situations yourself. |
| User | Seele | 2006-02-14 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Yeah, though you could tell them why their poetry is bad and how to improve it. I think it’s crueler to not comment just because your’e too scared to say what you thought, than to help them get better.
At the end of the day, people need to learn that critisism can be a GOOD THING. It helps us improve. |
| User | mae | 2006-02-14 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Sometimes the poetry is just so bad that it would be hard to give any helpful criticism other than "throw it out and start over" and people don’t generally like to hear things like that. mae |
