O.K. granted, women can dress however they choose. Isn’t that how it’s been since the beginning ot time? I’m sure Eve chose her own leaves. So, what’s the point? If women are free, and do not dress to be "attract"ive, why are there so many clothing stores for just women, and so few for men? What’s the purpose of "Victoria’s Secret", better yet, what is her secret? Why are all the "famous" designers the ones who design women’s clothes? Why is men’s fashion, basically jeans and a T-shirt? Why is women’s fashion, the topic of so many magazines? I do not advocate women dressing cheaply, I just appreciate it when they do. |
| User | Di Re Rakord | 2005-01-13 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | I know this is going to sound really gay but, YOU GO GIRL!!! |
| User | marysunshine | 2005-01-13 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Clothing is optional...you can wear nothing if you prefer...or something ugly...or something pretty...or something sexy...or whatever! Who really cares? I like to look nice...I feel that I look best in clothes that accentuate the parts of me that I think are pretty. But I’m not going to strap myself into a corsette (unless it’s a period play) or wear 12 inch heals with pointy toes....I aint crazy. I wear makeup (not everyday) to make me actually have eyelashes and eyebrows (since mine are blonde). In the winter, I could stand next to a white wall and you’d swear I was part of it...I’m that pale...so a little blush is helpful (also I’m an actor, so I kinda need to be noticed and look pretty if I want to work). Some women totally look better without makeup...I have great skin! But I have no color...and I don’t do the sun...I’m sorry, but I have a set of eyes that tell me when I look good...society does not dictate that for me. Some trends I like, some I hate. I decide for myself...I think as long as you do that, you’re fine. |
| User | phil askew | 2005-01-12 | | | Subject | End of Feud | | Message | O.K. no more clothes on women! .....OOPS! I meant, no more on women’s clothes. I yeild the point. Women can dress however they want, for whomever they choose, even themselves. Of course, Victoria’s Secret just went bankrupt, but hey, there are plenty of other’s to fill the gap. (Frederick’s of Hollywood). They’ll just have to adapt, these women’s specialty shops, maybe they call themselves athletic clothing stores and replace the NHL for winter entertainment. Ah, the games we play when sex is involved. 2 minutes for holding, 5 for checking, but the women get even with a 10 minute major for "charging". I like it, lingere-clad women on ice. How to keep the ice from melting? But, if we become a sex-less, uniform wearing society, boy, what fun that will be. Hey, babe, nice outfit! Oh, sorry Bruce! |

| User | phil askew | 2005-01-09 | | | Subject | Response | | Message | Magnicat - I keep trying to hang out with the wrong women, but I can’t find any. As for my horizons, well, the sun is setting on that expanse. I’d settle for a woman who could dress herself, and as for Tom, Dick, and Harry, they’ll have to find their own women. I have an endless supply of bubbles, I create them as I gaze and drool at the scantily clad women of this world.
Eener - I respect your choices, but unless you make your own clothes, you buy from the rack, and the rack is full of "sexy" clothes put there by the boys of Madison Ave, and the garment industry. Now let’s not go feeling sorry for the Hollywood crowd and their very unpopular life-styles. Imagine forced into wearing $50,000 gowns, and attending those horrible parties, what a sad situation. Let’s take up a collection for the poor souls, maybe the folks in Sri Lanka would like to contribute.
Di Re Rakord - Sex is for people over 15? Have you been to Kentucky lately?
Mary - What’s your take on all this? Are women’s clothes designed for SEX or not?
Badani - You’ve basically said that you dress differently from all the womwn around you, because they dress for show and tell and you do not. That is exactly my point. The choices women have are limited because the "industry" sells SEX. The clothes are designed and promoted as sexual lures, and women buy them for just that purpose. Sure, not all women, but it’s hard to find any alternative clothing, so choice is not an operative word here. If you wear anything at all, it was made to have sex appeal. |
| User | eener | 2005-01-09 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | And let me remind you that if those "starlets" don’t go all out and dress as they do, the tabloids would have a field day, and their reputations would be ruined. Everybody expects them to portray themselves as they do. Anytime you hear of celebrities dressed in sweats or something, they are getting rediculed and belittled for it. |
| User | eener | 2005-01-09 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | ahem....
When I said all natural, I meant all natural, phil.
I don’t have any more holes in my body then I was born with.
I would never put any tatoos on my body.
I would never even get contacts to replace my glasses.
I wear no jewelry, and will wear none until I get engaged to my boyfriend.
I own sneakers, ugg boots, sandals, and one pair of heels that I never wear because they annoy me. Less than 10 pairs in total.
I don’t even put up my hair very often.
The only lotions and things I use are a bar of soap during my everyday shower and of course, deoderant. I don’t use perfume or body lotions.
Not every woman buys into these "fashion" trends. Or at least not all of them.
Care to try me some more? |
| User | phil askew | 2005-01-09 | | | Subject | In defense of fashio | | Message | Stop with the "freedom of choice" act, already! I’ve intentionally pulled a few chains here to stir things up, but as most of you have said in reply, "I dress to feel sexy". That’s my whole point. Women’s clothes are designed to be sexy. Sexy clothes sell. Women dress to feel sexy. Let’s review fashion’s history, from bikinis, short shorts, and mini-skirts to hip hugger jeans, thong bathing suits, string bikinis, and Wonder? Bras. What’s the "hottest" is the fashion of choice. I never said every woman dresses to attract men, only that their fashions are designed to do that, and women then dress as they please. The young tend to dress more radically, set the allurement pace, and determine what is "trendy" and what is not. If women do not dress to allure, then what are all those "red carpet" starlets thinking? Are they just the lucky ones, with the bodies and the money to dress as they please, and this is what they please? Meanwhile the working mother dresses only in designer knock-offs trying for the same image, but only to be self-fulfilled? No! Clothes for women, are designed for SEX, purchased for SEX, worn for SEX. Their is so much bare skin in today’s fashion, women resort to tattoos to cover the empty space, and even if they don’t wear make-up, they still may have a conformity ring in their nose. |
| User | magnicat | 2005-01-09 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | i think you are hanging out with the wrong women, Phil... you need to expand your horizons, man, and find some independent women who dress for themselves and their own benefit. a woman can dress in a sexy way without wanting to attract everyone Tom, Dick and Harry around, just because it feels good... |
| User | eener | 2005-01-09 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | (I own less than 10 pairs of shoes, and I would never dye my natural hair color.)
If there were no men in the world, I would still dress as I do. |

| User | phil askew | 2005-01-09 | | | Subject | Final question | | Message | Someone answer this ,please. If there were no men in the world, would women still dress as they do? |
| User | Di Re Rakord | 2005-01-09 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | dude i have to agree with the women here phil. most women ive asked will give me a hour fucking long description/reason of what they wear and why. i have had one only one tell me "because the guys like me for it" Phil you have a comercialist stereotype of what women think on clothing from what ive read here.
