Message  What do you guys all think of the ES "stalk!" feature? Something that bugs me is that there’s something of an obligation that comes with it. I know that a few users removed me from their stalk lists when I don’t match every comment they make on my work with their own.

DO you think Stalkers deserve more attention from the writer they follow? Should the writer feel grateful and comment on all the stalker’s work in thanks?

Or could stalking be something that should only matter to the the stalker? I’m just curious what ya all think of this... Interested in your responses...

Message  If someone deletes you as a a stalk for not reading all of his/ her work, he/ she is egotistical as hell. I’m grateful when people read my work, period. I’m flattered when someone stalks me, but I don’t care if I ever get comments. I’m not really keen on getting notifications for journal entries though. I guess it’s because people change them so often; I wouldn’t mind if we were never notified of journal entries.

Message  i’ve noticed recently, alot of the newer teenaged members will say to one another,
"i’ll stalk you if you stalk me!" then, when one of them doesn’t pay enough attention to the other, the other one deletes them...if you’re stalked, you have no obligation to return the favor and really, you have no obligation to comment on anyone...........

Message  Most of my stalkers aren’t around a whole lot. I check the "remove stalkers" function every once in a while because it holds a list of everyone stalking you, and I see I’ve been removed by a few just this past month. Unfortunately, all of my time in here has gone to defending myself and arguing with users, so I’ve not had much time to read and comment. I thnk it may have put a couple of peole off...dunno.

Message  I notice that happening a lot... if you don’t keep up your comments to the stalker, they might cut you. But then again, he mighta removed you to get room for someone else cos he stops by your page every day?

Message  While stalking can be very much an honor...I was recently removed from someone’s stalk list...and it kind of hurt my feelings. This person is a writer I really admire and was very honored to be stalked by him. Ill admit that I’ve been somewhat of a slacker of late I guess. I’m just not feeling the poetry I’m reading, and I don’t really want to write some shallow response to someone who I admire. As my responses became less frequent, I was cut...so then it cheapened the whole honor of being stalked in the first place...wasn’t it my writing that he was stalking? Turns out he just liked having me as a fan...too bad.

 Message  LOL, doofus :P

It’s interesting how you guys see stalkers. For some reason, I always thought
"these people care a whole lot about my writing. I gotta make sure I look after them and say thank you straightaway, in case I forget." But that was then... I just don’t have the right time for any stalks, or being stalked even... I’m desperately hoping that no one comments on my work, because I don’t have the time to get back to them to say thank you and reciprocate. I’ll not post again until I’ve gotten back up to speed with everyone though.

There wasn’t any serious reason for this post, I’m not unhappy with the stalking systems here. It was more a random-thoughts idea.
What do you think about the limit on the stalk list? should it be broadened, unlimited, or even reduced? Ever wonder who stalks you? I hafta admit I have lost count of everyone... which kinda chucks my "I gotta look after these people" theory out the window :P

Message  No...I don’t think it should be an obligation at all. I think it should just be used as an "alert list" for users whose work you like.

I actually just deleted everyone from my stalk list, not because I didn’t think they were paying attention to me, but because I was just feeling so overwhelmed with the amount of post alerts in my pms. Then I started thinking that these people know I’m stalking them, but I’m not commenting due to lack of time, so they may think I’m a jerk. And I couldn’t just delete one person. So I let everyone go....I felt bad, but I don’t know what everyone expects of their stalkers...so I figured it’d be more fair to just not stalk anyone until I have more time to pay complete attention to their work.

I also am obsessive about a tidy desk....even a cyber one. All of those post and journal alerts were really making my pm file messy with a journal alert here and a post alert there.. And that was just bugging the hell out of me...*twitches*

haha..just kidding...well, not really.

When it comes to the people who stalk me, I don’t expect them to comment on all of my pieces, or any of them at all for that matter. I’m just flattered they’d want to read me in the first place.

Message  LOL I always feel guilty for my poor stalkers, I actually say "thanks, and sorry in advance for flooding you with Journal Alert! PMs..."

But like Magnicat said, some people I just go see everyday and they’d be the ones I’d stalk. So I’m seeing their stuff anyway.
I don’t stalk anyone for a few reasons. because sometimes I’ve noticed when I don’t comment in a while on someone I’m supposed to be stalking, they go weird and act huffy. I’m sooo bloody busy and am such a bad ES-er in terms of how it takes me ages to get things done, after replying to messages and keeping up with people and going ons I’m lucky if I’ve the time to make two comments. And then there’s times like this when I’ve next to no time at all... I don’t have the time to stalk people.
That sounds SO LAME.
Sorry...
I think you’ve got a good idea though, mae. They didn’t ask to be stalked, yes...

Message  i did remove a few people from my list, but that is only because i visit their page daily anyway (like you, Learah!). it does get overburdensome sometimes when you get these messages about journal entries, and when you go to check it out, it just says "meh" or something...

Message  i like the stalk feature... except that one of the people i stalk will sometimes put out three or four journal entries in a day... so i get all these PM’s and they jus tsay journal submission and it pisses me off... i dont feel much of an obligation.. but... i only stalk two people.. and they dont post that often... so.. it works for me alright...

i think it should only matter to the stalker... cause i wouldnt care much if someone was stalking me whether or not they left comments.. i’d just be happy they enjoyed reading my work... (nobody seems to though..as i have no stalkers...) it wuold be nice for the stalkee to commetn back.. but.. that should happen anyways.. common courtesy for the comment..not because it’s a stalker commetn.. but just because...

Message  Personally, I don’t even feel an obligation to read everything that is posted by the person I’m stalking. It’s a decision I made to stalk someone, therefore it should matter only to me how I use it. I don’t feel that any responsibilty attaches to the other end. After all, they didn’t ask to be stalked. I like having it because it does alert me when there is a new submission by someone whose work I admire, but then what I do about it is entirely up to me. mae
