| User | WolfStar | | Topic | AAAARRRGGGGH!!! | | Message | Okay, I know I’m going to pay for this, but what’s with all the freaking "I’m depressed, I’m a cutter, I wanna kill myself" angsty drama on this site???
Okay, I understand that there are a lot of clinically depressed people out there, and this is not directed at them. I’m talking about the all the angsty "I wanna jump off a bridge, he broke up with me and I’m dying" poetry out there.
Usually I am able to sift through all that without complaint, but I think it’s starting to alienate other members who may not want to read about death and mutilation. I’m not saying all cutter poems are bad but that there are simply too many of them! I go to the forum to be enlightened and moved by words and thoughts only to find myself attacked by a slew of angsty teenage cliche.
Many of the other kinds of poetry around here are disappearing... I understand that it is how you feel and that you have a right to put it up, but it’s making other people depressed and frustrated. What I’m saying is, to the angsty teens out there: can we keep the suicidal rampage to a minimum?

All writing sites seem to be overflowing with the angst. I do agree some of it is worth reading but there is a bit more than I want to read. I think I stopped reading, commenting, and posting in the main writing part of the site b/c of it. I agree with Pen. . .if you post it here you should expect criticism. That’s what this site is about not pitty parties. You post your work for improvement. It seems everybody is angst anymore. . . *sighs* |

From the emphasis placed on teen angst by the site builders, this place is designed teens to write and to encourage them to improve. If they express their selfpity and their woes, then, hopefully they get it out of their systems, to move on to other forms of writing and live int he process. |
