| User | Aknahlij_d 1 | | Topic | In God we Trust | | Message | When we go to confessional booths, it always runs through my head what to say and what not to, which brings up an interesting paradox: if God knows everything, does He know even what we don’t admit to in confession? And if so, what is the point of praying or any formal religious practice if he knows all our feelings any way?
What’s kneeling between father and son, right? or wrong? its your choice. |

| User | kanu | 2006-06-14 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | not sure if Icaught the complete signifigance of the child thing - actually a parent, particularly to a young child, is a representative of god - in the sense that when one is young one is dependant on someone else (one’s parents) in a way that will never be repeated for the rest of their life - a person’s attitude to the notion of god (as a merciful maintainer) is often influenced by their experiences with their parents as an infant.
As for god’s "minions" etc , you have to understand that god’s pure devotee, scripture, in fact anything connected to god, is non different from him because they all emmanate from the same potency of god - for a liberated personthey perceive no difference between god and scripture. Understanding god begins in the notion that god is very exalted and great and the demand that he comes to us face to face before you move an inch in the name of spiritual life is not one he is likely to comply to. I mean you cannot even lay such demands on mundane persons like the president, what to speak of god |
| User | ghostknight | 2006-06-13 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | so when a child is being made fun of at school, and is too young and ignorant to ask his mother for help, he is left to suffer for his lack of understanding, whether or not there are writings or people who claim they can help him. words on paper, or worse, ’devotees’, who (like the writings) cannot provide any proof whatsoever that they are truly of god’s blessing, will only confuse the child who only wants his mommy but is too young to understand, they will put their own motives before the simple truth... because come on, it’s easy enough, it shouldn’t require scripture or some religious devotee, all it should take is for the average person to tell this scared little kid that his mother might be the person he needs to talk to. and this is giving a LOT of leverage to the mother, who by all means should be able to recognize her own child’s confusion since, you know, the kid is 3 or something.
god shouldn’t be speaking through a host of minions. he should be speaking to us face to face. otherwise, he’s enjoying our suffering and letting us fall from his grace on purpose. maybe he’s that bored. i wouldn’t be surprised. |
| User | kanu | 2006-06-13 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Well why should god, who is fully independant (not obliged to perform any duty, fully satisfied in himself etc) come down and greet the ungrateful residents of this world? God’s business is to enjoy himself all the time (just like we try to do in this world to a greater but mostly lesser extent),
Of course god has an interest in us winding up our useless business here as quickly as possible, and for this reason scriptures are there and he also sends his pure devotees to re- establish principles of religion - so if a person is inimical to these two things -scripture and his very dear and pure devotee (which are things that are on our level and suitable to where we are in the world), why should he come down to our level? If we blatant exhibit that we are not interested in becoming qualified to enter his abode, why should he infringe on our independence. If we do’t want to know him he doesn’t suffer so he just lets us be busy trying to solve the latest problems of our lives and the world without him |
| User | ghostknight | 2006-06-13 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | the answer to that question is obviously through simplicity. why bother wasting time or energy on something that you can handle yourself? why tell people to speak to priests when you are obviously all-knowing, all-powerful and all-present? it’s all there in the bible, all it takes is a relatively intelligent mind to figure out that when god is speaking through the modern christian bible, ’he’ is speaking so far outside it that it makes the book he speaks from seem ridiculously primitive. that should be the expected norm considering it’s GOD. |

| User | dismentled | 2006-06-10 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | From the religious perspective for those who believe, you are correct she does know all your "sins", "inequitties", and "transgressions". We are obligated to ask for forgiveness God. NOT some guy who thinks he’s god, and feels that the church is right in deciding who is right to attend. We are to ask for forgiveness in order for it to be given. We are to ask God, not some guy at church. But if the church admitted that, than it wouldn’t really have any power or influence now would it? Believe what you want but from a religious perspective God is all knowing/forgiving. But only forgives upon sincere admission. |
| User | Jeniffer | 2006-06-10 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Yes, of course He knows! He knows your every thought and half thought! But it is important for you to confess them because that acknowledges what you did; it is an act of honesty. |
| User | kanu | 2006-06-10 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Well how can the term god exist unless he is omniscient and omnipotent? Just because we are human and and composed of fauts doesn’t mean unconditioned souls are, what to speak of god |
| User | Astra | 2006-06-10 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | I believe that there is a god, but I don’t like saying that he knows everything, though I think he might. It just sounds like a human who claims that they know all. I don’t know why, but it just does. Anyway, I think the confession box was just another part of the Catholic church’s rules or crap. I think that the point in confessing is admiting and trying to do better or understand the mistake. I don’t know really, cos I feel strange thinking about this because I am not as spiritual as I should be. I am Christian, my mom is catholic though and wanted us to have a first communion, confirmation and all. I, however, haven’t had any of that and I am in my teens. I haven’t gone to church on a regular basis for years now, and the last time I went at all was Christmas, 04-05. Whatever, i don’t know. |
| User | kanu | 2006-05-30 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | In otherwords it is very difficult to sincerely look for god in this world since we are generally more interested in finding a comfortable position to grow old and die in (the comfort, ironically, becomes more poignant the more you ignore god) |

| User | kanu | 2006-05-24 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | So what are you saying - that god doesn’t create the means by which we can truly understand him - is god some grim victorian figure of stern glances that takes a pleasure in placing us in illusion with out any clues how to approach him - if we create religion it means that we create false religion - god establishes proper religion, either directly or through an empowered representative, and we always mess it up by introducing new thinigs, adding and subtracting to our whims, until the whole thing becomes a farce and then religious principles are re-established again through the same agency - the whole process is a descending one and not an ascending one of mental speculation and empiricism. |
| User | joeyalphabet | 2006-05-24 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | We make religion, not God. It’s because our tiny human minds can’t understand Him/Her fully. And I’m sure She/He makes allowances for our imperfections. |
| User | Blue Monk | 2006-05-23 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | As to the value of increasing "knowledge of God";
Mark 10:15 Most certainly I tell you, whoever will not receive the Kingdom of God like a little child, he will in no way enter into it."
Romans 4:5
But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
A child like, innocent faith in Jesus as God’s son alone will give you his gift of salvation. Wanting to know how to use your gifts to better serve Him as your Lord comes naturally, but is not necessary. We become heirs, the children of God, and will not be lost to anything after that.
Two commandments He left us with, love one another and spread the good news about Him around the world. Witness then the power of the Holy Spirit which Jesus sent to help us. |

| User | kanu | 2006-05-20 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Thats obvious but what is religion?
If you want to say that one must find a suitable religion there must be an array of options that are actually religion. Just like if you want to choose a particular brand of tea you must have a range of brands to select from. So just as tea is made up of black leaves etc, what is religion composed of?
Rather than telling me what religion is not tell us what it is... |
