 Topic  Tattoos
Message  A lot of people have tattoos, but some people believe that tattoos are damaging to the body. It was said in the bible that our body is like a temple and that we should take care of it. Is getting a tattoo damaging your body?

I believe that it isn’t, but others may disagree. I think they’re fun. What do you think?

Message  Art, entertainment and expression on a committed and personal level? A popular and attractive bit of vice. It’s not up to the old "chosen people" standards, but historically, even they failed at every turn. Jesus overlooks any blemish, given the chance.

Message  No one believes in demons? Actually you have to search hard to find any system of belief which does not recognize them in some form. Some light reading is in order, perhaps? A short course is always available at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demons and theres a nice link from there for any new age types to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modern_Gnosticism.

Add up the people just mentioned.

I did find a quote I like:

Quantum physicist David Bohm (Thought as a System) among many others, also realized this, and dedicated many of his efforts bringing up the importance of thoughts to humankind: "Thought runs you. Thought, however, gives false info that you are running it, that you are the one who controls thought. Whereas actually thought is the one which controls each one of us..."

Retrieved from "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modern_Gnosticism"

(You really have to read the whole article to get it.)

Your thoughts control you... not the other way around. Food for thought? I said I like it as a quote, not that I believe it per se. It just shows where some people are.
The part about false info being given I believe all the way.

Message  Oh, and the vast majority of tattooists are professional enough to employ autoclaving -- so the only people at risk of infection of any kind are the ones stupid enough to go to some backstreet operator. And those stupid ones are usually some little kid wanting to rebel against the ridiculous strictures of their closed minded parents.

Message  "Because it is an outward expression of defiance to the "old" rules of the Israelite God."

Get over it. Not everything has to do with your Israelite God, whom your petty world revolves around. Many cultures have employed tattooing for cultural and indeed purely decorative purposes for thousands of years -- in fact, long before your God decided to show Himself.

Demons? Your religion is the only one foolish enough to think they exist.

Message  Demons love tattoos! Why? Because it is an outward expression of defiance to the "old" rules of the Israelite God. That’s always very attractive to Them. But hey, maybe it’s ok now, being as a lot of people don’t believe in such a God (or demons)anyway.

I really like it when someone has a symbol or design that they were told represents something "special", but they really have no idea what it is or means. Any help from the Wicca or Satanist crowd on that one? Clueless am I.

And what was that thing about "the mark of the Beast," a tattoo perhaps? I personally don’t think so, but why take chances. And I can’t even spell hepatitis, but that’s probably the least of your worries with the needle, etc.

Message  Tatoos are nothing that harm your body, it’s the persons choice to get it or not. When people translate the bible from different languages they put their own opinion in it. They don’t care what others think, plus not every one here is a christian. Me i am wiccan, big deal but tatoos are something that people do to express them selves.

Message  I agree with Magnolia_Steele that in the Bible where it talks about keeping your body a temple, it was talking about the heart/soul. Personally, I like fake tattoos, cause then you can change them out without having your whole body covered in them... plus, I’m scared of needles :S

Message  Temples are meant to be decorated! You do it less harm getting some ink then filling it with the crap most people (including myself I admit) eat and yet religon doesn’t really care about that. true, Muslims and Jews aren’t saposed to eat pork because back in the day it was a bad idea to do so in the desert with no refrigeration available but why not update those old rules to include Big Macs?

Message  I don’t think that God would look at you differently for getting tattooed. Your body is your temple and you should carry it and treat it in the way that you feel. Tattooes represent one’s life. They can tell a story without even having to open their mouth.

In prisons....men tattoo themselves with symbols indicating what they are locked up for since they can’t speak amongst each other at times. This is how they gain respect.

Tribes have gotten tattooes forever....and they do it for the Gods they believe in. Egyptians had tattooes and did it for that reason as well, plus for the decoration.

I myself have a cross on my back. To show my dedication to God.

I guess everyone has their own opinion.

Message  This past Wednesday at youth group we were talking about the legalities of the Christian faith. It’s not that we’re against them, but we were talking about how some things are taken way too far by Christians. Well, the type of Christians that have to follow certain rules in order to be a christian. Like you have to dress a certain way, speak a certain way and present yourself in the best manners possible. Anyway, My friend Evie is going to a Christian school with her twin in Denver. They go to a church called Scum of the Earth.

Well Evie has been having problems with her roomate. She just drives her nuts because she is one of those Legalistic people. Evie has been desperatly trying to reach out to this girl. Once the girl came back in the middle of watching office space. So she finished out the movie. Well, when she found out that it was rated R, she started to freak out. Because a youth paster from where she was from actually had them sign contracts saying that they’ll never in their life watch rated R movies. Well that’s bullshit I think. Poor Evie has to live with her. But my point to this whole thing is, that I see besodemuerte’s point in it being a metaphor. I never really thought about that.

Message  I think that tattoes are cool. And if they do damage the body, this is the first I’m hearing of it. I think it’s a form of self expression. And that scripture in about our body being a temple was to show how we were to value our body and self. We were not to harm or abuse our bodies. I think now, that getting a tattoo is the least of harm you can do to your body these days.
