Why do we label people?
Why do we feel the need to?
Why should it matter?
Do you think it’s right? Why?
Do you think it’s wrong? Why?

Your answer is this...
1. It can be taken way too far and can turn to bullying
2. This is turn lowers the persons self esteem
3. If it continues, the victim may start asking themselves, "what’s wrong with me?"
4. This will cause the person to find things wrong with them, because they figure there must be something wrong with them if people keep tormenting them for who they are.
5. If the person does not know what to do about the situation, this gives the labelers/bullies more encouragement and things will get worse and will turn to harrassment.
6. The victim of this "torture" will become sad, upset, and eventually depressed.
7. Still, it continues, becauses the bullies don’t see the damage they are causing
8. There are two breakoff points here, they can go either way or both ways. The first is suicide and self harm. They might think, hey, i’m too fat, so they binge and purge...they might wonder if someone would notice them, so they cut, also to release the pain they feel inside from all of this torment. And they also might not be able to take people’s shit anymore, so they justm ight kill themselves.
9. The second, if the person is revengeful, not spiteful, they will wish harm on those who put them through their hell. This is a factor of becoming a bully themselves, or a school shooting.
10. Everyone gets hurt in the end.
You see, labels can be taken too far...

| User | stefhy | 2006-04-21 | | | Subject | Unfortunately so... | | Message | We do label, all the time. And unfortunately, sometimes people judge within seconds. I mean how long has the saying ’Dont judge a book by it’s cover’ been around, and still 90% of us (yes that’s right, that many of us do, and I’m sure you do too without noticing) judge right on the spot. The more we judge on certain people the more rebellious they get against it- and I can understand why.
The one that bothers me constantly (perhaps not the most, but it is one I see everyday that just needs to stop) is the label of the typical teenager.
My own parents keep thinking I’m going to throw my life away and when I speak back to them it’s because I’m a teenager - not because I have a good reason to speak or something silly like that. ><. . . They see me as a teenager girl, rather than their 16 year old daughter.
Just a question to all the parents out there, (and I mean no offense by it I’m only wondering).. Have you found yourself treating your own children this way? Because I seriously believe that in some cases, it’s this treatment that starts the cycle of a ’rebellious teen’ anyway.
Anywho, I’m done my blabbing for the day as I’m about to be kicked off the library’s computer. I probably won’t be back for some time, but when I am I will check back for another hello. Bye for now. -Stefhy |

This is exactly what is wrong with people. Labels. Thinking you know something when you actually know nothing. |

| User | Blue Monk | 2006-04-20 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | As to those who give out and use such labels, simple is as simple does. Is "simple" also a recognized label? |

| User | Toxic_Rayne | 2006-04-17 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | It does, and it makes people think about it to...you’d think they’d learn to shut themselves up because bullying and labeling all leads, to either suicide, depression, anger, and sometimes school shootings...So, tell me, labelers, why do it?

| User | supergirl_in_oh | 2006-04-17 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | people lable people so they can make them selves think they are better than everyone else in popularity thats why they feel they have to because deep down they have no self-esteem, it shouldn’t matter it is just a word.i think it’s very wrong because it makes some people commit suicide. |
| User | Toxic_Rayne | 2006-04-17 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | I like what you said there, Cresent, stereotypes destroy friendships that were never stated...I’m so glad you pointed that out because it’s so true! |
| User | Crescent | 2006-04-17 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Why do we label people? Because people feel that they are not better than some one else and the put that person down with that name it’s like calling some one a freak it puts them down.
Why do we feel the need to? i anwsered that already people feel they need to put people down to make themselves look better.
Why should it matter? it shouldn’t people are unique and no one is the same not even identical twin.
Do you think it’s right? Why? stereotypes are going to be the end of our culture we have built up for so long, and that they destroy friendships that never got started.
Do you think it’s wrong? Why? stereotypes are need that is so not true we would have a better society if we didn’t have them they are useless and there for others entertainment. |
