"As for being documentably false... does that mean that you consider the Bible to be incontravertible evidence?" - The TV programs I saw were investigating several premises of the story against current evidence, not biblicial reference.

I mentioned the Bible and other historical documents (such as letters between the various Romans in charge at the time) to further say the story makes no sense from a Christian point of view. The Romans say Jesus was put to death (they knew how to do that very well) while the Bible says (believe it or not) there were many witnesses that he awakened on the third day thereafter.

If the purpose of Jesus is to come back in his glorified form, it is not logical that an earthly "heir" would fit into the Biblicial (God’s) plan and so a vast conspiracy is drawn up out of thin air to hide this "history", then leaked. Another media blitz against the divinity of Christ? I think so.

Message  Oh David, I couldn’t agree more. It’s a poorly written book that would have been pretty much dismissed except for the controversy and excellent marketing which convinced people they were reading something ground breaking.

In the long run, does it truly matter? Whether or not the line of Jesus continues should make no difference whatsoever to people’s faith. It’s evident that the Bible has been doctored over the years to suit changing moral trends, what should one more difference matter?

Most of you no doubt follow the King James Bible, one which was edited to remove "Catholic inconsistencies". King James was a Freemason. Have fun with your secret handshakes, but really, do the words change the essence or is the essence an unchanging God?

Message  It’s a poorly written book. I figured out clues faster than the ’experts’. And of course it changes your thought processes... that is the goal of any writing... to make your mind think different ways.
Also, the stry tries to bring two elements together into one story and they really don’t quite mesh.. is it goddess worship or about Mary Magdaline? He brings goddess worship into it as a major focus but then he’s toying with the idea of a mortal child of Jesus and Mary.
The trick of the book is that it sets up facts, presented as truth, but then forgets to say the book is fiction, not a treatise on religion or the family line of Jesus. I don’t fault Dan Brown for that in particular. I fault readers who don’t realize they’re reading fiction and jump to conclusions.
The one thing Dan Brown has going for him with the book though, is the controversy he set off. People are going to read more of his novels, and as long as the Church has to defens itself from it, the more people are going to read the book, the more money he makes.
It’s too bad Tom Hanks and that French Actress are acting in the movie. I don’t plan on seeing it myself. I can’t see it being worth the time or the Money.

Message  I think this issue is being totally over exaggerated. Yes, it is an amazing book. If you choose to read it as a fiction novel, then it will not change your thoughts. If you are comfortable as a Catholic then this should not alter anything. It’s a book....talk it or leave it.

Message  I think it’s all propaganda to get people to read both books. (Which I had done before all the hoopla.) Interesting way to accomplish that end goal, but it has recieved more media hype than should have been afforded.

And if you’re worried about having your brain warped, you might want to get rid of television, dvd’s, cd’s, and your radio. Make sure not to look at the walls in bathroom stalls, or at the pretty billboards on the sides of the roads. And make darn sure you don’t read any of the depressing poetry from the teenagers on this site. (Want to talk about warped!)

Message  The Da Vinci Code does reference "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" and give proper credit. None of the story is particularly earth shattering, it’s been Masonic lore for centuries.

As for being documentably false... does that mean that you consider the Bible to be incontravertible evidence? Personally I consider the Bible to be a great bedtime story, and the Da Vinci Code has just as much claim to credibility.

Unfortunately for Dan Brown, he’s essentially a pathetic writer who couldn’t really pull it off, but was good enough to cause controversy among the not-so-bright masses who’ll swallow anything if it’s coated with enough crap.

Message  I have not read the book and probably will not, but I have watched several television specials on the matter, including the one from which the "Code" book was reportedly plagiarized, "Holy Blood, Holy Grail". The premise of the story(s) has been researched and discounted in numerous ways as being totally false.

Anything about Jesus can be viewed as interesting, especially when you weave Divinci, several secret organizations and knightly orders into a conspiracy involving sex, lies and coded messages in paintings (video tapes were not around yet).

I view it as pure entertainment and do not worry about it warping my mind any more than it already is. It is documumentably false, period. The story also makes no logical sense considering what the Bible and other historical documents on the life of Jesus says, but some people are making a boat load of money on this and I hope they at least tithe.
