"Evolutionary scientists have suggested that belief in God, which is a common trait found in human societies around the world and throughout history, may be built into the brain’s complex electrical circuitry as a Darwinian adaptation to encourage co-operation between individuals.

If the research is correct and a "God module" exists, then it might suggest that individuals who are atheists could have a differently configured neural circuit. "

So what do you think?

Message  If you check out the referenced article it mentions "Evolutionary scientists have suggested that belief in God, which is a common trait found in human societies around the world and throughout history, may be built into the brain’s complex electrical circuitry as a Darwinian adaptation to encourage co-operation between individuals."

Evidently, these scientists are unaware of real history which suggests that "around the world and throughout history" mankind has been anything but co-operative either on an individual or national level. I’d throw out the "co-operative" part of that theory for sure! History is marked by it’s wars, not by it’s periods of peace. Periods of peace just meant that someone had complete dominance, and often ruled with an iron fist to keep it that way. Pax Romana!

Many members of the animal kingdom have better relationships with each other than most people do. Does that mean they have an evolved "god module" which is better than ours? Keep looking for better answers.

Message  I still think it comes down to predestination. Nowhere in the Bible does it say that we have free will, although there’s numerous entries regarding predestination. Maybe God puts a "God Module" in those he’s ’chosen’ and the rest of us are functioning athiests.

Maybe it was an option we could choose to have put in- like AC and power steering in our cars...

I think a lot of athiests find not believing in a higher power a more logical approach to life.

I think even more people believe in God, but can’t connect their belief in a higher power with the messed up organizations we call religion these days.

The real answer to this is, "We just can’t know." But it’s an interesting theory.

Message  It kind of lost me at "scientists have suggested". Scientists are supposed to present some proofs at some point, which when talking about God wanders into some serious speculation regardless of which way you’re going. Doubtless they found something and took the only path they could without being laughed at by their peers, the evolutionary/Darwinian one.

Have they done studies to determine if the "God Modue" is present from birth and early childhood, or is it something that develops later? If later, is it because of exposure and "exercise" of that portion of the brain? For atheists, is it a question of it having never been there, or has it just atrophied from lack of use?
