 Topic  Think for yourself.
 Message  Throughout human history,

as our species has faced the frightening,

terrorizing fact that we do not know who we are,

or where we are going in this ocean of chaos,

it has been the authorities,

the political,

the religious,

the educational

authorities

who attempted to comfort us by giving us

order,

rules,

regulations,

informing,

forming in our minds their view of reality.

To think for yourself you must question authority and learn how to put yourself in a state of vulnerable,

open-mindedness;

chaotic,

confused,

vulnerability

to inform yourself.

Think for yourself.

Question authority.

Think for yourself.

Question authority.

Think for yourself.

Question authority.

Think for yourself.

Question authority.

Think for yourself.

Question authority.

Think for yourself.

Question authority.

Message  As to the "Message", speak for yourself guy, I know who I am and I know reality. I also know the results of brain damage when I hear it speak.

Message  By the way I forgot to post, that was written by Timothy Leary.
******

******* So Timothy Leary is the new authority? How does that change anything?

Message  But if you are asking us to question authority aren’t you also advocating yourself as an authority - in short you ar enondifferent from any other "authority" - your premise, like theirs, is that they ar e the correct authority - it would be more progressive to try and discuss something about the distinctions between qualified and unqualified authorities since it is inevitable that we follow some sort of authority (even if it is the authority that tells us to question authority) - practically you cn see that despite all the revolutions and take overs things inevitably settle down into an "authority" so its kind of ridiculous to try and establish that all authority is useless.

 Message  To NoMartyr:

Perhaps I did not make it clear to you that my comment was not made in response to your quote. It was directed at the "damn the government" statements in this thread. I also said, if you noticed, that I do agree with you in that we should question authority and look inwardly for answers. My comments about the disapproval of our government was not directed at you.

Message  "It was shitty poetry regardless."

I guess it’s a good thing it’s not poetry then. And I personally find it more heart felt than your poetry and it has a better message than you just getting high all the time.

"but if all you have to say is "fuck the government" without any kind of better or more effective system in mind, the statement is generally worthless."

That is not what this paragraph is about. It’s not really as blunt as "fuck the government". It’s more about asking questions, and looking inward. It’s about religious and educational authorites too, not just political. It’s about dropping acid, being vulnerable, loving and appretiating all things. There is a better solution in mind when this paragraph is talking down on authority. The solution is "think for yourself".

"We have iPods and flat-screens while whole nations are struggling under disease, poverty, political unrest, genocide, and other numerous types of disaster. How bad can you honestly say it is for you? "

I will admit I live in paradise compared to other parts of the world, but that doesn’t mean our problems shouldn’t be fixed. I want to do things to help all societies, by doing away with all societies. I will admit, I’ve been somewhat institutionalized by the system of government running over me, but I no longer want it that way. I’m going to find ways to get by solely on my talents and abilities and not become any respectable member of this society. I agree with you if you are trying to say "too many people bitch about the government but don’t do anything about it", but I am not going to be one of them. This is what I’m trying to say.

Message  You know, I am so sick of the whole "damn the government" shit. I agree that you should question authority and look inwardly for answers rather than to everyone else, but if all you have to say is "fuck the government" without any kind of better or more effective system in mind, the statement is generally worthless.

If you are an American making this statement, then yes, I agree that our system of government is imperfect and does need many adjustments, but look at the rest of the world. We have iPods and flat-screens while whole nations are struggling under disease, poverty, political unrest, genocide, and other numerous types of disaster. How bad can you honestly say it is for you?

Yes, question authority. Hell, question everything, I say. But every now and then, be a little fucking grateful. We have no idea what realy suffering is.
