| User | Jeniffer | | Topic | ES | | Message | I know it’s not just me; this site has changed. I mean, it’s still a great site, fantastic in fact, but it’s not the same as it used to be. There was an enthusiasm, a chi that was here when I first joined exactly one year ago today(1-9-06). for one thing, I don’t get comments like I used to. One piece that I spend a lot of time on and then wait a few days after posting will have one comment when I check on it. something stupid, like "Whoosh" will get a ton of comments, some longer than the ones I got on the serious piece! I’m the type of person to go around to random pages of people who don’t know me and say stuff like ," Hi!" or "Grapefruit! Yum!" People don’t do stuff like that; they don’t usually talk to you unless you talk to them, and sometimes I feel like I have to do all the talking. They also don’t reply to comments very much at all anymore. I like personal PMs, and I send out unsolicited ones to people just to get something back, but if I don’t, than I won’t usually get any kind of personal PMs; unless I send out a ton of stuff, my page will be pretty lonely, the traffic will be pretty slow. Wake up, members! Everything is slowing down more everyday! Who needs more feedback on your work? I know I do!
What we need to do is get the juices flowing and the conversation going. Post some work that will get people commenting; give a title that makes people click on it. Advertise your work on the shout box. ALWAYS reply to comments as much as possible; give out good, friendly comments that make a poet feel heard and appreciated. Try to get back that old vibe of community and activity that we had in the beginning. Take some time away from debate sometimes because it can drain and make you lose interest in reading poetry. And don’t be so serious with poetry; it gets BORING. Have fun, write something humorous and clever, something that rhymes. What I want you to do with this thread is use it to get the traffic going around here. Advertise, advertise, advertise. Give us a link you your page, your work, or the page of someone who writes really great stuff who you’re a fan of. One thing that I am not satisfied with in terms of feedback on poetry is it’s slow. What I would love is a poetry chat room; you post your work and get live, active feedback. You can discuss it instantly and without waiting! It would be separate from the regular chat room, for poetry discussion only. When you have guidelines like that, it keeps it from getting watered down. You can post poetry here on this thread if you want. the reason why I posted this on debate instead of general is because general is more slow; debate gets a lot more traffic. Let’s think up some good suggestions to give to Jimmy and petition for a poetry chat room!

Hi. I am your new magazine. Please look at me @ : www.eliteskills.com/u/ES+Magazine |
| User | abuzzbuzz92 | 2006-09-04 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | I am pretty geniousy! Heehee!
I love the idea of having more than one page. This sounds cool!
We need people who are interested... how about we make the first 2 pages; and let people know about it. If they are interested, then they can request getting themselves pages; and we can be the cool moderatery people! :) :$
Jennifer, I’ll PM you to get this all working together. Zach, if you’re too busy to help out permanantly then maybe you could submit an article or something whenever you have time. It’s up to you.
Maybe I should make one account so that others get interested.

| User | insphered soul | 2006-09-03 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Its genius and I’d love to help, but I couldn’t supply the info and I dont really have the time to focus on a magazine. I’d love to read it though and keep up with it, but I doubt I could help alot with it. Sorry. |
| User | Jeniffer | 2006-09-03 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Hey, I’m back, and I have a great a idea. The original idea sounds more like a newsletter than a magazine, because a newsletter often has only one page. But a magazine has a lot of different pages, which got me thinking; instead of just Abbas creating an account under the name ES Magazine, we could have a few different people create their own account under the name Es Magazine Page One and ES Magazine Page Two and so forth. At the end of the article/journal for Abbas’ front page, he would have the link www.EliteSkills.com/u/ESMagazinePageTwo, so you click on it and go right to the next page! That way we could have more than one person writing for the magazine.
One person could do like a comedy article, with a joke of the week ( a good one) and a funny poem or story of the week, someone else could have a book article on a great book that they read, who wrote it, what it’s about, why it’s great, and so forth. Nobody has to stick completely to a specific theme, they could include little random bits of whatever the want that is ES related or in some way relevant for ES. We should have some regulations, like nothing political or religious, nothing obscene; it should be written in a journalism kind of tone, like a real magazine. We could probably have as many pages as we want, all someone has to do if they want to be a part of the magazine is ask. Anyone who wants to write their own page for it can just get an account and have the member who writes the latest page add the link to their page at the end of their article.
Now, do you understand what my idea is? I think it is actually fairly simple, but it will take some work and enthusiasm to get it going. I could tell Jimmy about it and ask him if he could send of one of those PMs that go out to everybody about the magazine.
Guys, I’m serious about this. I think if we just put some effort into it, I could really see it happening. We just have to decide who does what and when and how, and it shouldn’t even take to long. Do you guys think this will work? |
| User | Jeniffer | 2006-09-03 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Maybe we could have a weekly ES Mag Poetry Award. Everyone who helps with the magazine could look for a really great piece and then nominate it by PM. We take a vote or something, and feature the poem in the newsletter journal. And we’d have to post pictures of some kind....maybe a picture of the author of the awarded poem...you know how BLT always has pictures of herself on her page..we could ask them if we could post a picture of them above their poem....
I think we should choose a few distinguished members on this site and ask them to help out with the magazine, and of course everyone could chip in, and this might end up really working out well! |
| User | Jeniffer | 2006-09-03 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Jeezits kameezits, that is a great idea; I wish we could have a real magazine for ES, that has poetry and articles from the members, weekly member profiles and a little life story, and some things sent in by non members....it would be awesome. But a simple virtual magazine would be really cool; We’d have to have more than one person working on it...like a mini ES staff....how cool would that be...
Can I help? Can I help? Can I help help help? Pleeease? |
| User | insphered soul | 2006-09-03 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Abbas your a genius! We could call it: ES Magazine
If you feel like doing that much work that is. |
| User | abuzzbuzz92 | 2006-09-03 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | I could make another account with the name of the magazine and people could PM stuff they want in it.
What could we call it?
The ES.er?
:S |
| User | abuzzbuzz92 | 2006-09-03 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | I read in another forum of an idea to have a poetry magazine.
It sounds like fun. We could have stories about what’s happening on the site and stuff, and feature a few poems and stuff.
Since something official would take too long to come; we could post it in a journal or in the forums. But there is no formatting etc. here; so it would be better in a journal. Is anyone interested? |
| User | insphered soul | 2006-09-03 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Good point Abbas. |
| User | abuzzbuzz92 | 2006-09-02 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | But lately, messaging and all is much lesser. Most people don’t bother to thank for the comments they get. Anyways, maybe we could do something to make the site more fun.
Maybe the forum/chatroom is a solution to the comment crisis; but will people really bother to come there if they are just not interested in commenting?

| User | abuzzbuzz92 | 2006-09-02 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | You are right. The site has been pretty boring lately; and we are losing some of our older writers. I don’t think we should leave much more up to Jimmy.
We could try and do something ourselves. hmmm.... |
| User | Jeniffer | 2006-09-02 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Ah, that’s good, but because we can’t see facial expressions, it’s hard to tell if someone is being huffy or not, no biggy. It’s just that I, for one, and not the only one, get caught up in all the heat and negative energy around here, and it really makes me miss the pleasant social stuff and friendships here that make ES so much fun. I just want some people to try and perk up this site a bit, Remember all the tight little groups of friends that we made in the beginning? Why not rejuvenate those some? I think half of the energy put out on ES is sucked up by this here debate forum, and much of it is negative. You know what? I don’t care how much what someone here says differs from what I think, we can debate as hotly as we want on this forum, but we can still be friends elsewhere. We can be arch enemies on some political or religious debate, but best friends who stalk each other on the rest of the site. Why not? I say the one big rule is not to let any debate or disagreeing leak over into the personal, social relationship of anybody. I say forgive anyone who pissed you off here, no matter what. So, everyone who pissed me off, I forgive you! Can a get an amen and an echo? |
| User | insphered soul | 2006-09-02 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | I see what your saying Jeniffer. Kinda like a chat room thats likes a poetry reading in a cafe or something right? A chat room where people come to so they can hear poetry and comment on it without waiting for someone to find their way to their page and click on only 1 poem and barely comment on it.
Brilliant.
And I wasn’t getting huffy. |
| User | GiveMeTheGun | 2006-09-02 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Mm. I agree.
Sorta. |
| User | Lost Sheep | 2006-09-01 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Things were pretty active when I started a year or more ago, but a lot of the changes Jimmy put in drove people away. The contests were a bad idea and the comment rating thing was terrible. He seems to have disappeared again, so maybe the site will develop its own synergy again without the constant tweaking.

| User | Blue Monk | 2006-09-01 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Coffee, I’m in! And while we’re at it, please don’t think I pick on anyone in the debate forum on any personal level. Sometimes I’m just being a spoiler. |
| User | Jeniffer | 2006-09-01 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Hey, you know i’m just thinking. I know we have a chat room already, I’m thinking of a kind of live discussion of poetry; maybe a kind of format where you post something just like a regular submission but you comment live.....I dunno, just an on the spot idea, not shooting for genius. Probably won;t work....just like most of my ideas. At the very least just use this thread to advertise some work; post poetry and maybe get more continual feedback without putting a notch in percentage...not that I care all that much about percentage, but I’d just like to see poetry discussed in a more fresh way than post-and-comment. No need to get huffy..... |
| User | Jeniffer | 2006-09-01 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Stuff...you know, like...maybe....drink some coffee and don’t be such a dead beat? |
| User | insphered soul | 2006-09-01 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | We have a damn chat room already, and slapping the word poetry on it isn’t gonna change people from talking about non important stuff on it that has nothing to do with poetry.
I feel the same as you do Jeniffer, but I just dont see how we can get this place all engergized and active. Its like MyX’s corner, it was all lively and fun to go to, but now its just lonely and boring. I’m not saying ES is boring, but its lacking some seriously good stuff. Maybe everyone would get excited if MyX were to come back. It seems like it got all boring after he left.
I wish this place was more improved as well, but what could we possibly do? |
