Message	I have found that "self employment" is the most secure. Find a service that’s in demand and promote yourself into more business than you can handle. Just watch the bookkeeping and reevaluate from time to time to see if what you’re doing makes sense. Study who is making money doing what you could do. You might be surprised. Ultimately we are all working for ourselves. If you work for someone else, spend at least 10% of your time looking for something better. Otherwise you are not deemed aggressive enough. That’s the real "race".

Message	I’m not sure, but H_K, shouldn’t they have some sort of Affirmative Action thing for White people trying to get jobs that intermingle with other cultures? God knows we’re the most ignorant beings when it comes to things outside our social barrier... There ought to be a law that you shouldn’t be discriminated against because you can’t speak Spanish. Pretty sure you could sue for that... ... no you can’t, but that’s the logic I’m seeing.

Message	Thanks Mae, but I’d probably end up killing you and lose my job over it. (Seeing as I’m so enamored with violence...) It sounds like a good career plan, but when Social Security and Medicare run out the jobs in that industry will be cut too. I have considered going back to school, but I’m already $40,000 down in school loans and have not been able to make payments. Know who wants to loan you more money for school when you have not been able to make payments on what you already owe? If you know of anyone, please let this Mic know... Joey, it’s smart to tell you kid to do study what they love. I’d hate going to work at something I hated too. Although I hate not having any job more. Not that anyone cares, but I didn’t get the job today. I’m not fluent enough in Spanish.

Message	Fortune 500, eh? Sounds good- are they hiring? I live in an area where the population is predominantly Caucasian. Most of the middle income jobs in this area have been shipped overseas, and the rest of the big companies in this area are always worried about, and are frequently being sued for discrimination. And the I.T. degree I have would call for a pay rate that is a lot cheaper for companies to find in India. Two of my classmates (out of almost 120 still looking) found jobs this year in our chosen field, so I’m still hopeful. If I had to guess, Joey, I’d say I simply picked the wrong educational path. I should have gone into nursing to take care of all the aging baby-boomers... I have an interview this afternoon- to clean hotel rooms. I just have to prove that I can speak enough Spanish to understand the boss. Wish me luck all. If I don’t get this or the taxi job across the river, my internet will be turned off the first of next month.

Message	who exactly is ’barring’ you? i work for a fortune 500 company and i see lot more minorities and women working here than when i started a decade ago. but i also see a lot of young white men too. i don’t see that one necessarily excludes the other.

Message	I thought college education was the answer, yet I’m still trying to figure out how to keep my internet turned on. I do not give a crap what people call me- it is a title someone else has chosen. By becoming mad I’ve only given their words power, and I refuse to I TAKE a GIVEN or MEANT offense. It is my choice to let others words hurt, offend, or affect me. And I chose to be the bigger person by not lowering myself to their level to toss angry words around, or sulk off because someone does not like me. I do, however, find it appalling that I can be barred from working a job I am completely capable of doing because I happen to have too little ’color’ to my skin. Should I have bought a tanning bed instead of a college education?

Message	Speaking of census, H_K... It states in that website you posted, that “12.7 percent to 14.6 percent” increase will occur for the black population in the next 45 years. This is still a very small number of black people... Why do I bring this up? For the statistics regarding the Black College Scholarships and deference in choosing blacks in the work place. http://nces.ed.gov/programs/quarterly/Vol_5/5_4/6_2.asp The above link has a graph included. This is the basic trend in graphs I’ve seen regarding the statistics on education. This is going to be my argument: Just because White people are the majority, that there are more White people “in the market”, doesn’t mean that White people are any better off (as supported by H_K’s situation with unable to use his “invested” education). A little math: 80% of 100 people is 80 people 80% of 1000 people is 800 people On the graph there, about 95% of Whites/non-Hispanic have high school education or higher according to a US census taken from below website (H_K), that would be 185 million Whites without higher than high school education, contrasting with the Blacks of only 29 million. Do you understand how numbers can fuck with you yet? Taking those same census figures we’ll look at the people with bachelor’s degrees or higher: Whites – about 48 million without BA or higher Blacks – about 5 million without BA or higher True, there are more White people with education than there are of black people. But there are more White people. If you look at the people without the education, as a whole (both the Black and White numbers), there is hardly a concern for the Black community alone. But who even says college education is the answer?

Message	Hey H_K, do you get offended if someone calls you Mic? I asked an Irish friend at work this and he said no. I was trying to complain that ’white’ people get referred to as crackers and honky by black people yet Whites can’t call them anything back. I was trying to convince him that cracker and honky were just as bad as saying nigger (in principle). Here’s why: According to this website, "Honky comes from bohunk and hunky, derogatory terms for Bohemian, Hungarian, and Polish immigrants that came into use around the turn of the century. According to Robert Hendrickson, author of the ’Encyclopedia of Word and Phrase Origins’, black workers in Chicago meat-packing plants picked up the term from white workers and began applying it indiscriminately to all Caucasians. Wikipedia states that it’s "seeking a rebuttal for the term nigger." I want to back this up with somebody that lives near there. So here’s a question, would Mexicans, Filipinos or any other people who may have darker skin be offended if a white person calls them black? (I have a half-way-Native American friend that got offended from me implying that he looked most black out of all of us white friends.) I hope we know that the principle is being debated here, not whether or not the opinions of others are racist. It’s somewhat of a free speech issue, only certain people get to say certain things while others may hold their tongues.
