| User | Jeniffer | | Topic | Ghosts/spirits | | Message | This is an issue I’ve aways found interesting. What do you think about the existence of supernatural beings who apparently can influence and disturb the natural world?
I know there are many things to rule out; hoaxes, illusions, pranks, over active imaginations, false evidence. But what about the stuff to which none of those apply? What about people who are perfectly normal, sane, and previously unbelievers, who are absolutely convinced they have experienced something that is real? Why would there even be a concept of ghosts if the supernatural doesn’t exist?
Now there’s another question; if you believe in some kind of spirits, what do you think they are? Some think they are the souls of dead people stuck between realms. More interesting and more complex I think is the theory of familiar spirits, which means demonic beings who imitate human spirits to deceive. Personally I think that unless it is a truly benevolent presence, in other words an angel, any kind of haunting is not friendly. I don’t believe in ’good’ ghosts.
One more thing I’d like to look at is psychic abilities, from the Christian perspective. If all ghostly spirits are nothing more than familiars, or demons, what does it mean to have a ’sixth sense’? I watched something on the Discovery Channel about a southern Christian family in which the mother and daughter are clairvoyant. They were the real people, not played by actors or talking with their faces in shadows, telling their own story. Why would they have a ’gift’ that makes them more open to contact with spirits whose only purpose is to deceive them?
I think this mystery offers a big piece of the puzzle of who are and why we are here....
Have you ever had an experience that makes you wonder? |

Look at ANY religion closely enough and it will foretell of suck "supernatural" or "spirtual" beings. Some "good" others not so much, and they way I see it, you already know the answer if you’re asking, you’re just seeking confirmation to ease your mind. And that’s right where all the fun begins, enjoy! |

| User | Jeniffer | 2007-11-09 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | From what I’ve read, djinn are ugly and evil; they either torment humans, most likely one’s of power, or they use their power to grant wishes and turn the fortune against the human so their wish backfires. Maybe there’s other kinds of djinn.
"The term "supernatural" covers a lot, and by definition it remains unexplainable (see above rule)."--
This is one of those debates that can never be resolved; supernatural beings are ultimately unprovable, either way. They can often be disproved, but not always. So it all comes down to what you believe in....I’m one of those who does believe. I try to stay somewhere in between skeptic and agnostic....I know that ’ghost orbs’ are just dust, most EVP is just weird noise, and that most of us are more likely to believe than doubt because it’s more fun. But I think there are strange things out there, forgive the cliche.
On psychics... I guess what I was really trying to ask was, is it a sin, or an abomination, to have an extra-sensory perception that is involuntary and unasked for? Could it be for a reason? |

Look for the hidden third eye (optional in some forms).

| User | Blue Monk | 2007-11-01 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | "What do you think about the existence of supernatural beings who apparently can influence and disturb the natural world?" - Some rules apply, the main rule being something called plausible deniability.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plausible_deniability
"Why would there even be a concept of ghosts if the supernatural doesn’t exist?" - Over active imaginations? The term "supernatural" covers a lot, and by definition it remains unexplainable (see above rule).
"beings who imitate human spirits to deceive" - and loving it!
"southern Christian... clairvoyant... have a ’gift’ ... contact with spirits... deceive them" - This is one of those incongruent sentences that provides the answer to the question it poses. There is but one spirit that communicates with Christians, and It does not work to deceive, but to clarify.
"this mystery offers a big piece of the puzzle" - by definition (and rules) a missing piece.
"Have you ever had an experience that makes you wonder?" - at some point you cease to wonder, cease to be surprised, expect instead of reject. |

djinn: any of a class of spirits, lower than the angels, capable of appearing in human and animal forms and influencing humankind for either good or evil.

| User | Jeniffer | 2007-10-07 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | That’s the basic theory of what ghosts are; one I found fascinating myself, but not what I believe to be the whole story. I do believe that apparitions, as well as poltergeists, or spirits that can move things and make noise, are all energetic manifestations, and that they do latch themselves to places that have been the location of negative or violent events. However, I do not believe they are human in any way. |
