 Topic  would you read this?
Message  i’m in the process of starting to write a book.

it’s going to be non-fiction
and it will be about a mixtape that was the soundtrack to many lives.

every song will have a story, and each story will be a chapter.

i think a lot of interesting topics could be covered.
ie: drug addiction, alcoholism, friendship, romance, homosexuality

but i’m afraid of it turning out like a typical teenage diary-esque work.

any tips?

Message  I probably wouldn’t read it simply because I’m tired of the whole drugs and homosexuality topic that’s way overdone by now. It’s a contemporary issue that people draw out too far and too long. I even told my boyfriend that I didn’t want to read his stories about a heroin addicted girl because I was so tired of the subject and how cliche it is. That doesn’t mean others wouldn’t, though. I’d suggest making it relate to the normal person, though, with things like debt and children and general anxiety. I can’t really relate to alcoholism, homosexuality, friends, et cetera, so it’d have no impact on me.

Message  While the subjects have all been done before i think the form is unique enough to off set that. It sounds like an interesting idea, though i wouldn’t read it only because i am more into sci fi and fantasy, i mean if i am going to take a break from life to read a book it needs to a real break and not just another window to the world. Anyways is this like a mystical, occult, spiratual, supernatural tape with some kind of history or just like a symbolic tape or what.

Message  Well first off, unless this event really happened, it is fiction, not non-fiction, and you have a better chance of having impact if it is fiction. Then the songs you use can be chosen carefully to fit the lives of the people in the story. The problem I see is that music is such a wide spread... thing... your choice of music may alienate many people who don’t know the music you’re using. Make sure you begin each chapter with the whole of the song lyrics laid out for the readers. If you just use a title or a few lines, you’re going to lose readers who aren’t "in the know"

Message  Although your idea is quite good, the topics you’ve mentioned there have all been done plus a hundred others that anyone can think of. I haven’t any direct advice other than remember to keep it original. Think outside the box in your subject and the delivery.
