Message  I know! A clean, flash-like layout that’s very clean and crisp and modern looking, not just black and white.

Message  You should get some pretty good ideas from looking at EliteSkills. It’s free spirited, and the formatting is done really well. It even teaches you a lesson on what not to do: DON’T have a stupid chatroom!

What turns me off to a poetry site is restrictions on what you can read or submit, as well as boring formatting; I like a site that looks unique rather than just another forum/message board.

There should be a balance between making friends and giving good feedback; when I joined ES two years ago, it was more poetry and feedback oriented than socially oriented, and you could count on people to comment regularly. I really don’t like a poetry site that feels to impersonal, but I also l also like the focus to be mainly on poetry and writing.

I’m really loyal to ES and don’t see myself joining another site for awhile; I’m going to start a project with some members who are helping with ES Magazine to get people to put more effort towards giving good comments and feedback. This site is worth reviving, and it would do a lot of good to restore some of that old enthusiasm.
I hope that you do a good job with making your own site and have fun along the way.

Good luck!

Message  I agree with the moderator idea, and perhaps some sort of engine that would allow one to delete comments given to them. (for those comments that are completely absurd and blimish the poem) Also a great idea would be a ’who’s on:’ section, a way to see if some of your favorite writers are on or not, this way, one doesn’t have to bombard the other’s page with "are you on?" comments to see if they’re on. One final thing, A CHAT ROOM! I was disgusted when I found out that ES’s chat room had been taken away because of excessive drama. *facepalms* We’re poets for pete’s sake, we ARE drama! *sigh* that’d be the perfect site.

Message  Personalization of one’s account wouldn’t be as much a good idea, because then the site would become more of a social place. I agree with bill that there are cliques, unfriendly to most. My biggest suggestion would be keeping things as general (prizes, nominations and blah blah as possible; have random name generator for poet of the week) and don’t target a select few skilled poets. If they are apt, they will be recognized as so by those who read that person’s work. Doesn’t need his or her named plastered all over to be acknowledged. Also add things like the quote guy on the first page after you log-in. A little more here and there like that could make a site really, smile-worthy. Of course, don’t overdo it or else you’ll become like one of those spamming nuisances on the web that annoys people. And if you make a forum, please for god’s sake elect, delegate; do ANYTHING to have moderators, or "rule enforcers"..

Message  I like it when it looks really nice, and threads are easy to find. Like if you were to click on "writings" or whatever than the most recent written threads would come up and then you would have the categories like poetry or prose like we have on elite. something we dont have that would be useful however is a key word search engine, you type in a key word and then search all writings or just the writings in one group.
ex: keyword: flowers
and then any works with flowers in the title or written more than three times in the piece would come up. It’s also great to be able to extensively personalize your account. You don’t have to put that all in there though. Good luck with making your website!!!

Message  I know it’s impossible, Ron, but if you could turn back the clock to the ES of about two or three years ago, the place would rock. The problem with most sites now is they seem to be composed of cliques that are unfriendly and exclusive. So be as open-minded as possible when you start this new site. Just my thoughts.
