| User | ES Magazine | | Topic | Petition to save ES | | Message | Any member who has been here for a couple of years should be well aware of how this site has changed; feedback is sparse and even crappy, blah cutter type poetry reign and talented writers who actually make an effort to give good comments are discouraged, because they don’t get feedback in return. Veteran members should remember when this site served a greater purpose; to help young writers develop their skills and gain confidence in their writing through helpful, well thought out and supportive critiquing of their work.
This is a petition to bring this site back to the way it once was; when people actually responded to comments, when you could count on support from friendly members who cared about helping others with their writing, and everyone felt like part of a big family.
This is what you do to sign this petition:
. Give your opinion, in a few words or even an essay, on how ES has helped you as a writer and a person, and why you think it is worth saving.
. Say what you will do to help improve the state of this site: give a certain number of comments a day or a week; reply to all your comments, keep your percentage at 150%, help out with ES Magazine; anything you can do to put out an effort.
Post your words here or send them to us via PM to Jeniffer or ES Magazine.
All signers of this petition will be put into the next issue of ES Magazine; we have not yet established a deadline for the next issue, and we probably won’t until we know how much response there will be to this petition.
Furthermore, you can help by collecting names of members who write quality work and give good comments, and PM them to Jeniffer or ES Magazine. Examples are: necrotic, _D.Q_, Milo shanley, charmedidentity, and Ronswords. Also, tell others about this petition.
If you don’t know about ES Magazine, read our current issue here at: http://www.eliteskills.com/u/ES Magazine
Thank you for signing this petition! |

| User | mae | 2008-07-18 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | You know, all this signing petition stuff is fine, but I guess I wonder why, instead of signing a petition, you don’t just comment on every new poem posted on Elite skills for any given day. I had taken down everything I’d posted because I either got no comments or crummy comments or crummy responses when I commented. This week I decided to give it one more try so I put up a few poems. A week and not a single comment - not one.
So instead of all these heartfelt "keep ES" and your signature, why don’t you just comment? That’s what it needs, not a signature on a petition.

| User | Jeniffer | 2008-04-15 | | | Subject | cutters | | Message | You are right, caster. Since posting of this I have come to understand the problem that cutters face much better, and that writers of cutter poetry need to be helped and understood rather than outcast or made fun of. It was never my intention to insult those with the problem of cutting; while the genre of cutter poetry may be tiresome to older writers, it is a necessary outlet for many, and should have it’s place with all types of writing on ES. |

ES is like a second home to me. I used to come here to escape my problems and have fun talking with the people here.
I hate to say it, but ES is dying. It’s like earth. Only more important. |
| User | Flynn | 2007-12-19 | | | Subject | Agreed. | | Message | This site has been a sort of saving throw for me. It is a place where I can be myself without fear of judgment, and express my inner self through the art of weaving words through pen and paper. A long time member, I have been a witness to the degradation of this fine site. It’s noble goal lies nearly forgotten. I admit, in my past I have not been an active member. There was an entire year where I didn’t even visit the site *once*.
Regardless, what can we do to save the site? I feel that setting a comments quota would be in order. At least 100%. Perhaps changing the navigation of the site would do well for us. Nothing dramatic, just touch ups. And lastly, I think that members who are merely slanderous and generally moronic ought to have their accounts revoked.
If I may suggest name of a fantastic writer who is not only talented but kind (and honest); SanctityExposed
Although I may have spelled that wrong :D
God Bless you all. |
| User | caster | 2007-11-08 | | | Subject | easy | | Message | i agree that the level of feedback has gone down. ive been here for over two years now and hardly get any feedback. il ladmit that my feedback is way down, mostly do to working so much.
but what i dont care for is you knocking ’cutter’ poetry. cutting is a real and very serious sickness/addiction that i happen to struggle with and alot of others do to. for you to suggest that writings about cutting is somehow not ’real’ writing, or is a waste of space on elite skills is both insensitive and ignorant of you.
i think most of us need to comment more and more in-depth, but lets respect all forms of poetry and be a little more sensitive to a very real and dangerous vice.

| User | manwithnoname | 2007-09-30 | | | Subject | ES...Dear to me | | Message | Oh Eliteskills, what sickly virus has eaten you?
I remember the days when as soon as I posted something, literally within minutes someone would comment. And how good it felt! Someone read it! Liked it! Suggestions and more!
Now I wander this electronic wasteland, sizing up the pile of forever lost.
I see many poems in people’s favourite lists, so I’ll click on it, only to find out what they probably found out as well:
The person is gone. All memory wiped away. Either they felt unfulfilled or they succumbed to the neat page design of WritersCafe.org. Curse you, WritersCafe! Your beauty is artificial, but Eliteskills’ is real.
I often feel discouraged at how less the comments come. I come on at least once, if not more times a day. Yes, I like to see if people have commented on mine. But I don’t give up. Instead of just getting sad, I get commenting. I comment on one or more poems at a time when I can. My % is just slightly over a 100, and I feel good. Sure, 140 would be nice, but that takes time. Plus, if you comment, often people will take a look at one or more of yours, which results in a nice, commenty % yo-yo. I know commenty isn’t a word, but it should be.
I am currently at college, busy with assignment. Plus, I’ve got work and spiritual study and meetings. Lots of things going on in my life. But I love to make sure I have some time to check out Eliteskills. Half the time I’m on Eliteskills instead of doing my schoolwork. Eh, I know. But Eliteskills has been good to me. It is a part of me. I love to write poetry and I love to be able to share it with others.
I almost feel like crying. I’m a very emotional person.
And don’t get me started on these emos. I know this world is horrible. Satan the Devil is certainly making it a ruin, a rancid pit to live in. But cutting/mutilation/angst is not the answer. Sure, some of my poems are emotional, but I’m not going on about slicing my wrists and bleeding all over the place. That’s nuts. I’d never do that. I don’t like blood. I think I’m kind of scared of it.
But, to wrap up, Eliteskills is a wonderful site that has diminished and deserves to be what it once was. Bring ES Classic back into being! |

| User | scarz | 2007-09-25 | | | Subject | A Better Place | | Message | I agree this site could use some work. I just started getting back on this site. I would love to help make this a better site, although I have’nt much time on my hands. I feel as if I have failed to meet the requirments to be on this site. I promise to try and comment more and put more effort into my poetry ( I haven’t posted any on my new page yet ). I will also try and volunteer. When I get more time to be on the computer, possibly during the holidays, I promise to help in any way I can. I hope this petition helps to make this a better pace fo us all. Thank You Jennifer for bringing light to this matter.

| User | Day DreaMeR | 2007-09-15 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | I’m not sure how to start this because I really agree with what the others have to say but I guess this is what I’ll start out saying...when I heard there was a petition to save Elites I thought that it was about damn time. So here I am signing it and glad to see some familiar names signing this. I haven’t been on here much lately due to the fact I’m slightly busy and a lot of the reason was I felt like there was nothing left for this site anymore. Pretty much that I kept seeing a lot of the same writes from emo kids and no one would leave comments anymore (or at least not ones that were worth getting). I really loved this site at one point that I would be on leaving comments for what seemed like hours because this place was fun and everyone was so friendly and it was kind of like one big family, but now I don’t get that feeling anymore. I wish this site would go back to the way it was. I would mention names of writers on here that are amazing but most have been mentioned so anyone thats new to here or wasn’t on here when this site was good, I recommend you take a look at what quality writing is from the users on here that have it.

| User | H_K | 2007-09-10 | | | Subject | untitled | | Message | Have Jimmy bring back the comment ratio requirements and those who don’t want to comment will soon be unable to post.. they’d be forced to comment or come hang out in the forums- which could use some new blood anyways...
People need incentives to comment- otherwise this place goes from a massive poetry improvement site to a butt-kissing, popularity click club that passes as adult-friendly site. (Those ALWAYS suck- by nature.)
The comment ratio requirement (75% ratio in order to post) was incentive- and when Jimmy took it away is when we started losing the Elite Skills upon which everyone wrote sappy poetry detailing their undying love of the place..I mean, fuck, I even wrote a piece..
my lousy two cents worth

| User | vitoko | 2007-09-07 | | | Subject | about old and new ES | | Message | Well, yeah, i guess you know me Jennifer, and well i havent been lately on this site because i do not have time too much work and school. But I can say that ES was the first site and the unique site where i felt comfortable to share my writing. Because i dont know what you will think about , old users. But i felt like we were a family. because everybody was helping each other. And commenting on, we get to know each other, i remember Lucy, the jess, wildchild, doh, silent_death12, Ron Mangnolia, and more.
So I didnt want to lose them, and i do not want to lose this site. I hope it could be that site i met years ago. Moreover, ES is now with many teenagers that do not do a great job with writing (i am not saying that i write very well), but they do not help the site. they dont help each other to get feedback. and they do not read, they want feedback but they do not give that. If you want comments, please new guys and girls, start commenting, remember: "if you want to receive, start giving". Hello to everyone that knows me , and to the new users a special "hello" because you are in a great site! and Jennifer... good job with it! |

I’m missing so many but you get the gist. Some still here, most are gone. These people opened my eyes to so many different styles and ways of thinking outside the box of rules. I was, to say the least, a bit overwhelmed but excited to be apart of something so grand. This site has given so much to so many...but at the same time, it’s the people not just the site. Without the people to take the steps needed for a revival it just doesn’t work. I mean it’s really hard for a real good writer to come in and post...get twenty comments and then be expected to keep their reciprocated % up. It just gets really hard on some for the simple fact that allot of those people are only truly inspired to read and comment on stuff that moves them. Then when they do comment it’s an amazing critique and insight to their thoughts.
When I look around Elite today I see quite a bit of very very high %’s and I look at those comments and MAN...it’s shite...truly...typical comment :
That was awesome, I really liked that. You used some cool visuals and it really comes through. Thanks for sharing.
Crap...what did you like....what stood out...how did you relate and could there be and changes that would make it better. Like seriously.
At the same time I can’t complain because I find it hard to read and comment when I don’t feel it and when I really try to help a writer and then get slapped for it .. well it deters you. I have some what learned how to be nice about saying this piece needs some major work to be reader friendly...but it’s not always received well.
Ok...this is turning into a a fricken story and a half...so
I pledge to get my % up as it’s at 123 and to try and help more.
So Jen if there is anything you like from me, I’m game...just let me know.
Last but not least...haha
LONG LIVE ELITE!!!!

| User | Nero_s Decay | 2007-08-14 | | | Subject | ES | | Message | I haven’t been here as long as a lot of people who are signing this, but I can remember searching for hours on end over the net looking for a web community where I could post my work and have people who were as serious and passionate about writing as I am. Though I can’t attest to the changes taking place, I can say that ES has allowed me to get advice from some talented people. It’s so hard to be a writer and to show people your work and always get the same reply, "Oh this is so good!" but never get anything real or heartfelt. It’s by far one of the better, if not the best, writing community I’ve come to be a member of. |
