Message  All of my lyrics start with an idea. sometimes I get a verse down then by the time I write the chorus, I have a tune in my head for a guide. Sometimes I have to go back and rewrite the first verse to fit in with the rest because the tune becomes the guiding force of my message. It dictates the lines.
If you don’t write melodies the one firm rule is uniformity through out the write. That is not strictly from line to line, but verse1 line 1 should have same number of syllables and Verse 2 line 1. The structure should be looser than most poetry. When I convert a poem to a song, the song Always has a lot more words. There are some good sites with professional advice on song/lyric writing. One of the best pieces of advice is to make sure the song has a hook..something that is repeated and remembered after the song is over and the next one starts. That’s not always easy to do, and still be original.

Message  There are two tricks to writing a beautiful song. Write from the heart, and have fun with it. I have written a few songs (one of which I posted) and with all of them I didn’t set out to write something that would make the girls cry or make people tap their feet. I set out to have fun and to enjoy the music. It’s kind of like writing a poem, if your heart isn’t into it you’re probably gonna write something very cliche if you write anything at all. Good luck I hope this helps.

Message  As i seem to this point none has asked the question what is the main thing when writing lyrics and it is which music style you would like to write lyrics? I myself write mostly metal lyrics ( for my band as said a moment ago ) and its really kinda different cup of tea when comparing to acustical music. My advice would be that take a song that you really like and play with the lyrics of that song just for yourself and I bet you will be astonished how many variations you can make of those lyrics and that way you get the basics for writing lyrics in your favorite genre of music. In fact i sing some of my favorite songs with my own lyrics nowdays - others seems to be a bit bothered about it but well... *grin*

Message  I think it depends on what style of songs you’re trying to write. I think I have a different rap, and song voice that I do with my poetry. Of course there are times of overlap, which is when my song lyrics are at their best. I play the bass guitar, but not well. I just hear melodies in my head.Sometimes I start out with the melody. Sometimes I start out with lyrics, and I just start singing them until they come out right. I guess my songwriting style is unorthodox, but I’ve only written two actual songs, and several raps. Itz just about what works for you.

Message  Depends. Do you play an instument? I don’t actually write songs but my sister does. It’s facinating to watch the process. She usually starts with something that resembles a poem. Then she sits down with her guitar and experiments with a few chords until she finds something she likes, tweaks the words to fit, tweaks the music to fit... basically, a lot of tweaking. She writes a lot of poetry and has converted a lot of it to lyrics. From what I’ve seen, you have to find a half-way point where words meet music. She also has to work with her voice--figure out what’s the best match with that. This is all from the musician/singer angle, though. If you just want to write out lyrics then I have no idea...
