    Mood: Juggling Tasks

    To the Machine.

My world is turning upside down.
All the things that set me apart--now I'm surrounded by people who do and think and want and love those same things.
    It's disorienting.

    Mood: The Usual

    Some of my top songs:
You Oughta Know by Alannis Morissette
Janie's Got A Gun by Aerosmyth
You Ain't So Tough by Heart
    Barracuda by Heart
    Le Rite du Prentemps

Scary classics, every one. Manhater, much?

    Mood: Overwhelmed

Glide, glide to the longsuffering racks,
    Glide up with supplicating eyes,
    Breathe with the lips,
    Then stamp.
Stand, wrench, fold out, haul, holler, yank.
    Glide.
Breathe. Remember the breathing is short.
Chop your life up, each breath to its own time.
    Ready to pull---
Jump! Stomp with the heels, twitch with the toes,
Make tumbling pillars of the legs, crab-claws of the hands.
Release, plan. Remember where life is, where you
    Are---
Push, bastards, push for your life. Flog faster, brain!
Forget mercy, run from the time!
Gasp. Watch the time, remember the mako following your wake.
Glide up with longsuffering eyes, and breathe.

    Mood: Too much at once...

My roommate was a cheerleader through high school, and so far in college.
If I'd been to normal school, I'd be the one sitting smugly in the background whenever the other loners started ragging on her.
    At least we're both Republicans.

She's offered to go shopping with me, but with me, shopping is a Tolkein-worthy test of fortitude.

    In conclusion, I suck.

Mood: Ugh... I hate my life.

    Am in dorm room.

    Just went thru frosh pump-up/hazing.

Hell, at least for sensitive souls like me. The music, heat, ear-shattering stadium music, and surging mass of identical-shirted people had me crying in the bathroom.

My roommate and I could not have less in common. She likes Shakira, for pete's sake. It's like Princess Pink on her side of the room, she's got her mom wrapped around her little finger. The woman somehow constructed her loft bed alone, while she was out doing orientation.

I'm depressed. At least I can strike back with my poisonous effluence.

    Mood: The Usual

My little birds are teenagers with drivers' licenses, only paying attention to me when there's something they want---in this case, soaked dog kibble popped down their throats.
They still take food from me like nestlings, but they can go wherever, whenever they want, fly away from dogs, and beg from humans. They mostly hang around the house, where the food is, but yesterday they were bothering our sensitive neighbor with their plaintive cries.

    Mood: The Usual

Baby birds are loud. They eat a lot.
It's a little hard to move around in my room without setting them off like little alarm bells, especially in the mornings when I have to get ready for school. Otherwise they sleep a lot.
On the plus side, a healthy appetite gives them a fighting chance at healthy adulthood.
On the minus side, they poop a lot.
They've got feathers, and I've seen them whirring their wings as though trying to fly.

    Mood: The Usual

I have adopted/kidnapped two baby robins. A cat got one parent bird (in my freezer waiting to be stuffed) and I stole the nest and two big, hungry chicks. They'll be getting in feathers in a day or so.
So far, I've fed them raspberries, strawberries, worms, oatmeal, slugs (halved and julienned) and eggs, and I'm about to start feeding them Gerber's turkey. I assume its about as cannibalistic as dogs eating pigs.
The difficulty will be introducing them to wild foods. I don't know how to get them, or exactly what robins eat besides worms. They'll probably hang around the house forever, perching on my shoulder and leaving little presents. Or my dogs will eat them.
    Ah, nature.

    Mood: The Usual

A bird hit the window last week, so I skinned it, like peeling off a sock, and preserved it in borax. The skin shrunk and got all stiff, so I figured I ought to soften it back up and stretch it.
Yesterday I tried to mount it, and it fell apart. It wouldn't fit over my little carved styrofoam body at all---though by the time I got the skin back over the head it had all the structural integrity of burnt tissue paper. Just shredded, and it had wires stuck in all the bones that were supposed to hold the limbs in place, but ended up making it physically impossible to put the skin on.
I ditched the body and kept the skull. It's a little one, but it has a cool crossed bill. If I put a pair of big round beads in its eye sockets it looks like it's watching.

    Mood: The Usual

I'm 18. My mom's not getting child support for me anymore. Good thing she's got a lot of savings and a job.
    The real world is scary.

Be kind, take a few minutes to review the hard work of others <3
It means a lot to them, as it does to you.
