Faye nodded as Derrek spoke about how long he had been apart of the team. He then said, "Well, I can see how someone like you would think that what I would said back there was stupid." He looked at Derrek with what seemed to be malice before returning his gaze to the road before them. "It's harder for me to just fight because there are still hundreds of soldiers killing people. The people I save are murdered by the soldiers." Faye looked at Derrek and then back at Midnight. "She'll be fine." He grinned and looked at Derrek. "I read up on her file. She's a pretty tough cookie." The easily distracted man murmured, "Hmm...I wish I could have a cookie. But then again," he sighed, hanging his head. "I'll bet that nice old man, Mr. Hannigan Cookie-Guy, is dead by now..." Faye looked back at the town they had come from and suddenly fell into what seemed to be a pot hole; a deep one too.
I've been a member for only two weeks. But I've been part of other military, para-military, and similar missions since I could stand and hold a blade. I've probably more than thirteen years of battle experience now. And that's enough for me to know that you never mouth off to superiors, even when they are wrong."
Faye sighed as he walked towards Derrek. "Hey Derrek, tell me, how long have you been part of the Kizima Squad?" He placed a hand on his sore, bruised jaw before looking at the sky. He heard thunder and lightning off in the distant, the only problem was the lightning. Faye sighed again and walked so he was even paced with Derrek and next to him. He looked down at the ground as he walked and he said, "I understand that was stupid to mouth off with the higher-up, but it IS our duty to protect the people. All we're really doing is killing millions of people, simply decreasing our already too little population."
Idiot. What should you expect if you mouth off to a superior. Our ultimate goal was to protect people. That was also the goal of the other soldiers, the army, and their leaders. Getting mouthy about it wouldn't do anything one way or the other. Fay had gotten what he deserved in that interaction, and Derreck felt no pity for him. "Let's hurry." He said as Midnight nurtured him and he left.
<Just a warning: I may not be on until Sunday. :( I'm going to NYC until Sunday, so...Sorry. '^_^> Faye nodded and murmured, "Right..." He sighed heavily and moved with Midnight. He smiled and said, "Thank you for cleaning me up, but I could've done it myself." Faye chuckled and said, "That was very kind of you." He looked at her, up and down, before looking her in the eyes. "Are you alright? Are your lungs bothering you?" He looked back at the superior and sighed as he looked outside and at the road ahead of them.
Midnight's eyes widened as she watched the higher ranking man and Faye get into a small conflict. She grimaced as she watched the man storm away then turned to Faye, noticing the the blood trickling down his chin. "I..Are you ok?" She asked with a weak smile, taking a handkerchief out of her bag and moving forwards, wiping the blood gently from Faye's chin, before placing it back in her bag. "Well, you heard him, we'd best go." She said with a sigh, knowing their orders. 'You're to report to the next town. There's an invasion there. Do the best you can.' She closed her eyes, for a moment. 'Do the best you can...'
The higher up glared at Faye and growled, "Just do your job." "But my JOB is to protect the citizens. That is also YOUR job as well." Faye said, face calm and still. The higher-up sneered and punched Faye across the face, watching him fall to the ground. Faye clutched his jaw and the higher-up snapped, "You're to report to the next town. There's an invasion there. Do the best you can." He stormed off and Faye stood up, blood dripping down his chin. He sighed and smiled at Midnight. "Well, that sucked." Faye chuckled and said, "Let's get moving, alright?"
Midnight closed her eyes, kind of knowing the soldiers wouldn't really listen to reason, after all, their job was to eliminate enemies, not save civilians, it had always been like that. She took a small step forwards and opened her eyes. "I think that a small group of us should go out and look for survivors..." She added to Faye's opinion, before watching the soldiers carefully. They turned, deep in conversation, and she sighed, thinking about what their verdict would most likely be, but for now, herself, Faye and Derrick had to listen to their orders, given from someone with a higher ranking than them, they were hired especially on their talents, to get rid of all the people that threatened the peace, and the lives of all the people living in Kizima. She pressed her fingers to her temples and looked back down at the ground, her dark hair covering her eyes, deciding to keep quiet, she didn't want to speak when it was out of place, and she didn't really have a right to have an opinion in this moment of time. She didn't want to make matters worse.
Faye nodded and smiled. "Alright. You lead and I'll follow." He moved towards Derreck, barely making a sound on the ground as he walked. As he followed Derreck, he noticed a child crying for its mother. He sighed sadly and looked away, still following Derreck.
The look on his face, if Derreck was not mistaken, was guilt. He felt guilty about what though? Not protecting Midnight? Some other event in the past? It didn't matter, it wasn't any of Derreck's business.
Faye looked up at Derrek and blinked. "What do you mean what's wrong with me?" He stood up and sighed, rubbing the back of his head in a tired motion. "Come along. Midnight's leaving..." He walked after Midnight, keeping his head down, averting his eyes from the people in the waiting room. He sighed heavily and once he stepped outside, he asked, "So, where to?" Faye looked at the two and stepped back a little. He knew they had some type of relationship, friends it seemed, and he knew that he should butt out for now. After all, he had seen the way they had talked in the room and he felt...a little lonely. However, Faye shoved those feelings aside and merely watched the two, not knowing what to do.
He didn't say anything to her insistence that she was fine. He had had serious injuries before and strained them by trying to fight too soon before they were fully healed. It just made the wait time for the healing longer. But if she wouldn't listen, that was her choice and not his. It was something that one learned if one lived long enough.
Midnight nodded. "Sounds good, and I'll be fine. " She insisted, her stubborn nature taking over. She headed for the door of the hospital, any more of this crowded waiting room, and she was going to have a nervous breakdown. She opened the door quietly and stepped out, leaning on the wall next to the door, awaiting the others to exit.
"We should report back, and get our next orders before this town is attacked too." He saw her place her hand on her side. "You should take it easy until that heals completely. You won't be in top fighting condition if you injure yourself."
"Nope, not really. My lung has a tiny puncture or something, but it's nothing I can't handle." She said, with a faint smile. "Well, what's the plan now?" She asked, standing up, her hand clutched to her bag, her other hand placed gently on where the glass had impaled her. She guessed that the coughing up blood had subsided for now, which was relieving, she wanted to be able to fight again, and not just be a burden.
He noticed Midnight shouting over the noise of the many others in the room and began quickly walking towards them, weaving through the crowded room.
"I'm fine, nothing I can't handle." She replied, glancing around the waiting room. It was full, which wasn't surprising considering the past hours events. She sighed and stood up, noticing Derreck enter the room. "Derreck!" She shouted, giving a wave. She hadn't seen him since the train. She winced a bit, shouting was rather strenuous on her lungs, but she did it anyway, kind of without thinking. She sat back down on the rickety chairs, hearing the crying, screaming and chatter of the waiting room, closing her eyes and taking a deep breath. How long would it take for the enemies to come to this town, tearing up the injured that had traveled quite a while, just to get their injuries treated to. She gasped, and quickly reached down to her side, sure enough, her bag was still in place, and she let out a relieved sigh, coughing again, and wiping the blood in her already bloodstained dress.
Derreck decided that the hospital, which he had been headed towards anyways, was as good as any place. Leaving the corpse of the dead soldier on the side of the road, he continues on. I'll have to find Fay and Midnight too, he thought. There would be plenty of doctors and army bigwigs milling around there so he could find out where they were if they were still alive. If not, he'd get assigned to a new team. It didn't matter that much, but he would have prefered for them to still be alive.
Faye sighed as he looked around the doctor's office. He knew Midnight wouldn't die, but he couldn't help feeling worried and anxious. He couldn't help feeling that it was his fault she was hurt and that it was his fault for leaving her behind. Sighing, he looked at the ground and murmured, "I hope she's okay..."
