Shell-shocked

Settings & Atmosphere

Non-identical twins Maddie and Bonnie have already had it pretty tough, seen as their parents died in a fire when they were young, leaving them in the care of Dave and Terry, their foster parents who mostly leave them to it.
They have a great modern house, with a room to themselves, and a pool and trampoline in the back garden. However, when two guys ask them out to the cinema, and turn out not to be as nice as they appeared, everything went pear-shaped. Maddie and Bonnie were raped and stabbed by the very boys they fancied.
Now in shock, they can't - and won't - trust anybody, male or female. They have so many troubles at school, they can't put up with it. And that's when they ran away.

(( Ugh... Why won't anyone post?! ))
The dreams... her dreams... they were haunting her, scaring her, hurting her so badly. But she still slept; it was all she could do to keep herself from going back. Those memories... Maddie hadn't known a thing about what happened when Maddie was out and Bonnie at home. She wouldn't find out.
Abused and hurt by her foster parents, Bonnie had started to become depressed, supressing herself, hoping nobody would notice her when she was all alone and fragile. She was an excellent actress; that's why Maddie didn't know. Nobody could guess by her happy and playful appearance that she was dying inside of pain and sadness, of feeling like she was the only one.
And although so many times, when she was feeling down and looked down, nobody seemed to care anyway. Nobody could see the scars on her wrists caused by her manic wish to die, everytime that Terry and Dave hit her, used her for their own twisted and sick pleasures.
And so Bonnie sat in the tree, tears sliding down her sleeping face.

Once she was round the corner, Bonnie broke into a run, dark hair flying behind her. The stag lagged behind, and she could tell he wanted her to help. But he'd said not to interfere. So she wouldn't, even though she knew it would turn Maddie and the stag against her... Heck, they could join the club of people who hated her. They had t-shirts and badges and everything. Probably.
Now alone, because the stag had left her and gone to see to Seth, Bonnie's dark memories came back to her. It was so clear, even now.
[It was a gorgeous day, and it was promising to be a clear night, warm and starry. So she and Maddie decided to have a midnight-trampoline-bounce thing. It was settled, and when they woke up at midnight and went downstairs, out into the garden. When they'd been bouncing for about half an hour, two guys they'd fancied came along the path next to their garden. Embarrassingly in their nightdresses, they'd shrieked and hidden underneath it. Next thing they knew, they were being asked out by two hot guys. The next evening, they were all dolled up in high-heels and miniskirts for the sheer pleasure of dressing up, and after the film the guys had suggested going for a drink. Maddie'd said yes, so Bonnie said OK too. That was when it all went pear-shaped.]
Bonnie slid over in the ditch, covering her jeans with mud, and stinging her hands on stinging nettles. Getting up, she sighed and clambered over the fence, and up...
[Up at the bar, Bonnie and Maddie were very drunk, but the boys were sober as soon as they saw that their victims tonight were pretty much pissed.]
Bonnie staggered over the fence, head throbbing. She hated recalling memories like this, but she knew she would have to, or she'd get a worse head-ache. She climbed up the tree...
[...Scared and no longer virgins, Bonnie and Maddie huddled, hiding behind bins from the boys, who were calling for them. Bleeding from her side, Bonnie was quickly becoming unconscious but Maddie was in a worse state; her pride was shattered.]
Sighing softly, huddled up and upset, Bonnie was asleep, her scars on her wrists clear to anyone who would come back.

Bonnie nodded, an arm reaching out quickly to halt Maddie, who had rushed forwards.
"He said not to interfere," she said simply, turning away and walking calmly away. The stag followed her, head lowered, betraying her true feelings to the rest of the world so they weren't private any more. But he was her companion, her other half, and he would be with her until they both died. And by touching her friend's soft warm neck, she knew they'd stick together through thick and thin, and they'd live together in the wild and die the same instant so one would not miss the other.
That's when she knew it was time to run away. She'd go home, pack her things, go to the shops and buy what she needed with some money 'borrowed' from Dave and Terry, which she knew they wouldn't miss. But she'd have to wait through this school day first.
Bonnie could feel her twin's eyed on her back, and it was tearing her apart to feel her sister's pain as well as hers burdened upon her. The weight... It was like the weight of the world, on her shoulders to carry forever.

He looked with at the deer and Bonnie blankly, his eye still stayed a bloody red colour.''You were not meant to interfere..''.He said calmly, only the two boys infront of him, which had quickly turned around had actually heard what he said.''You were not meant to interfere''. He said more sternly this time and a bit louder so the girls could hear it. The too familiar girlish laughter cried through his head like a unforgettable headache. He felt the touch of cold on his shoulder, he looked towards his shoulder and there once again was the girl that only he could see, she was sat on his shoulder this time but looked dead on at the girls, she bent down and whispered into his ear, his head nodded as the others looked confused as why he was doing that. He felt the cold slowly draw away as warmth regained his shoulder.''I understand...''. His mental 'friend' had told him exactly what to do, his back was still bleeding slightly and his face felt numb as he drew one arm back and let out two punches towards the boys back that he fell to the floor wheezing, he done the same to the other boy.
He lifted his head up and looked at the girls.''Please do not interfere..''. He said as he walked towards them slowly as his eyes started to blur and he collapsed infront of them.

Walking briskly, Bonnie's sixth sense was telling her something. Something was bad... something was wrong. Looking at her companion, he just gazed back in that complacent yet knowing way, and Bonnie felt a stirring within her which told her to mount him, he'd take her to the source. But she could run, it was what she was built for even though she was normally quite lazy exercise-wise.
She ran, the unnamed stag beside her. He would stay unnamed. Up and over the fence, down the ditch, up the other side and across the road. Her pentacle beneath her shirt was fluttering lightly against her chest, and it gave her strength to kepp running. The stag was right beside her. She knew he would stay there forever.
Skidding around a corner, Bonnie could hear her heart thump against her breast as she saw them attack Seth and Maddie. She slowed to a stop, the stag still beside her. They looked into each others eyes, and the stag did as she silently asked him to.
He charged in front of Maddie, strong, solid and huge antlers protecting her from the boys. Bonnie walked determinedly forwards. She reached them far too quickly for her liking. Stroking the nose of her friend, she turned to face Seth and the offenders.
"Everything okay?" she asked.

He hand did not break into heat as he held tight onto her wrists, the two boys came closer and closer, he could tell what would happen. One would go right and one go left. He let go of her to see what she'd do as he approached the two boys slowly with his arms laid still at his sides.
He passed through the middle and they chuckled to themselves as they turned around to punch him, he ducked only the slightest as his punch went straight over his head. The second guy crunched his knuckles and swung a kick, Seth reacted as quick as possible to this but he just got caught on the ankle making him fall to his knees. The two of them took this chance as an opportunity to punch him, he felt his back starting to get hit with pressure as his body lay numb. He hoped Bonnie was watching this.
They eventually stopped as a small bit of blood trickled from under his clothes, Seth slowly stood to his feet and turned and faced them, His eyes slowly opened and in one eye was the slightest tint of a blood red pupil.

(( Well... You could be thinking about memories... Wondering about stuff? ))
Bonnie stirred, the earthy smell of deer filling her nostrils. She smiled blearily, a little cold but dry. She yawned, opening her eyes to see the stag opening his in exactly the same timing. She could feel a strong bond with him... It was like she'd finally found her familiar.
Being extremely Wiccan, she believed one day she'd find a familiar who wouldn't flee from her, and would help her travel her spiritual path. Maddie wouldn't believe such things, as she was completely different.
Getting up slowly, Bonnie yawned widely and climbed up the sycamore for her converse and socks. She put them on, and slid back down to her stag companion. She stroked his head tentatively, and he gazed at her with eyes of melted chocolate, as if to say, "I'm ready; are you?"

(( We're Englanders too ))
Bonnie sighed softly, her thoughts gone into thw wind, to trouble anyone but her. She'd had enough of boys to last forever. Her eyes still closed, her thoughts still away from her, this was pure bliss...
The leaves swirled past her, and she had a sudden urge to take off her Converse and socks, so she did. It had been so long since she'd been at ease, so calm and careless, thoughtless and wandering. She slipped down off the tree, and waded slowly through the long lush green grass. She heard a strange call... Beckoning.. Pleaing for her to come and see, to come and help.
Bonnie didn't pause, only followed her lowest instincts, using her suddenly superb hearing to locate the source of the wailing. If only she'd been like this when... No, she'd let them thoughts onto the wind; they wouldn't come back to haunt her until she was done.
She finally came to a lake, crystal clear and beautiful. The water's surface rippled and then broke as a pair of antlers made their way up, their owner's head not quite making it. And Bonnie's instincts told her to help it. So she was in the water, sleek as a seal, ignoring the chillness of the water. Her main focus was on the drowning stag, who was thrashing about. She came up below him, using her back to push him up a liitle, and then, having given up on that, she kicked her legs to propel her and the stag's head up to the surface. When they had taken breath, Bonnie returned to hauling the unfortunate beast out the water. When he'd shaken himself off, he gazed at her with large, chocolate brown eyes, and she could tell he was grateful, and he could tell she was exhausted, and caught her as she collapsed, taking her back to the sycamore tree. He lay down, curling up around her tucked-up form and resting his head on her shoulder, antlers protecting her from any harm. He owed her.

"Are they.. them? I dont know.. Lemme go!" Maddie screeched, but quite quietly, the fear taking a grip on her. Although she wasn't even sure if it was them, it didn't matter, she needed to get away, the distrust inside her was so deep.. so strong that she couldn't escape it.

He looked down at Maddie who seemed to retreat again slightly, but not in embarrassment, this time it was in fear.''Do you know these two?''. He asked her as one of the guys pointed at them and the kneeling one let out a mischievous smile, the knelt over one slowly go to this feet and they both started to talk towards each other.
Seth quickly held onto Maddie's arm.''Your not going anywhere, your staying right here Maddie, i need you..''. He said with soft glistening eyes, he hoped this effect had worked on her and not scared her enough to see that he was trying to help.
