Thanks for commenting on Lakesblue! Yes there is an extra syllable in 3rd line. But is it really an extra syllable, in English prosody? What exactly is the status of a diphthong? I think professors have murdered other professors over this huge question! Makes yer wonder eh?
Haiku in English is so popular, despite all the puzzles that arise from importing a verse-form into English. However, all our traditional verseforms have been imported from various other languages! And they all had to cope with how versatile and adjustable this language is!
You might have met ES user Hanuman? Well to quote him, he reckons haiku isn't really poetry at all! But I guess he's too late. Like a skin fungus, haiku has already found its place on the body of English verse!
