Final Words

Mood: Too much at once...

"Father's Day" and "The Ole man", these were written in his final days. He knew the end was near, doctors and meds had done thier greatest works. All that was left was the drawing of his number. Scribbled on his (borrowed) notebook he sent out these to you all -- unawares of his demise yet to be.
I'm not a writer, his shoes I'll never fill, his path I could never follow. I've found though why he liked this forum.
As I read comments from many who only knew him as a name, your words reached out in such a caring way.
When his writing revealed that he had moved on, many spoke of tears and sadness, yet he must be smiling.
If I knew him like I believe I did, right now he is pointing out to the angels some very special memories from those who knew how to love somebody they never met!
Jan 22, 2008, it will be one year without his whimsy and whit.

Your comments to My Path was Brightened are greatly admired. I have been a devout Christian since 1998. I love my God. He's been my stronghold.

Do you remember this comment about my piece called "Trodden"?

"I was not part of those who took advantage of slavery, in fact not even my ancestors, for they came here much later.
However I do feel for those who suffered at their hands.
This is a fantastic reminder of such sorrow, and the wrongs that can never be made right no matter what do.
Funny you might mention the Railroad, it actually runs past my house here in Pennsylvania. I know of one house where it has been made into a museum of sorts, where many visit. The McCormick Mansion!
At one time it had hollow walls where refuge was found to rest before continuing on north!
A long way from NYC, but I hear your voice loud and clear, a fantastic write, no corrections from me!"

Amazing how you have a first hand experience of what I am talking about. It would be awesome to sit with you and listen to your experiences. I thank you for the comments and critique. I have many friends who have lived through this experience on both sides.

Hi Clay:

I am a pentecostal and I love the Lord. I cannot deny it lest I be an ingrate before His eyes.

thank you for your comment on "MY Path was Brightened."

yes, "The Captain" is the series of poems i was talking about. thank you for letting me know you found them. i can imagine you are stumbling upon a lot of Clayton's work. he was a prolific and fine writer, and it's wonderful to know that his work lives on, as does his beautiful spirit.

shalom,

Hello,
I am just writing to ask how you are doing. I know that it must be a lot and that sometimes everything might seem like a struggle. I know that everyting will be fine. Well I still think of your father and of everything that he did. I hope that wherever he is he is at peace. I am not a religious person but I do want to believe that when people die they can finally be at rest. Well hope you are well.

Sincerely,
Katrina

I can only offer my condolences ( what a small word that is really---) ---Clayton was always an enthusiastic and truthful reader/critic. I have just returned and will surely read and save some of his works. He was one of my fave people here.

So Sorry for your loss, --may he keep on just doing what he was doing--- "righting" it all down.
