im sure this makes no sense at all, but its for you. here you go.
A friend of mine asked yesterday,
“What are things that are worth living for?”
I thought for a moment and said,
“A lover…”She nodded her head,
“Yes I thought so too.”
“Um…Children?”
“Yes I suppose youre right,
you cant just leave them here…”
“And a passion,” I finished.
“Ooooh, good one! Well,
If I turn 25 and have no lover,
Children or passion, I’m going home.”
Most would argue with her,
Something like, “Suicide is
Ridiculous and selfish…etc.”
But I knew if she’d decided,
There was no hope of
Changing her mind.
She’s the stubborn sort.
So I just looked at her
And for some reason smiled,
“Amanda, you’ll always have passion.”
Even how she sighed when she
Was tired, had passion in it.
She beamed at me and whispered,
”I want to die driving very, very fast,
Off a cliff.” ”A cliff?” I asked. My
Stomach churning at the thought.
“Yeah… I like that falling
Feeling when you fly.”
And in a strange, sick way, I envied her.
Id always wanted to go the same way,
Perhaps a tree for me though, that
Falling feeling made me nauseous.
But could she really not see
How her poems could make
An English teacher cry quietly?
Had she never looked
In the mirror, when that
Fierce determination
Crossed her face,
Daring anyone to
Challenge her.
Doesn’t she know
The courage I find
From standing beside
Her, when insults
Are hurled at us
That make me cringe,
And she looks them
In the eye, and laughs.
I don’t think she realizes
Any of this, so I wanted
To tell her. “Your stronger
Than you know.
You hide it, but its there. “
with love dear. see you tomorrow at grad. practice. kt.
i was just looking over things and came across your comment on my poem don't. i was curious if you could go indepth on how it was overwhelming, which may help me tweak it.
