    Journal: Disenfranchised
    -------------------------------------------
    Mood: Guess what!?

Yesterday I was browsing through the house wares and toys at a thrift shop and as usual couldn’t resist the offer of a bag of books for a mere two dollars. I always check out used books and have been known to buy the same book twice, three times or even more and then give them to friends and family. I have even been known to purchase back books that I have donated, and to buy books at yard sales to donate. I digress though from my story.
On Thursday I had been told that I was laid off from my dream job,-that position being a night shift janitor at a large copper mine near here. Now, a day later I was applying for EI benefits and shopping at the Sally Ann! I thumbed through a book about writing I had found buried under the glossy efforts of Danielle Steele, Norah Jones and a steamy horde of harlequins when I came upon the phrase describing the “historically disenfranchised”. I tucked the book into the recycled grocery bag to mingle with Hamlet, a Cholesterol Counter, several novels (good, bad and ugly) and a Moosehead Cookbook that I once owned or probably still do own and would use if I could find it. Driving home, I made a mental note to look up the meaning of the word. I somehow felt a kinship with the disenfranchised of the world now that I had been wrongfully dismissed from my job. The fact that I was taking legal action and was assured my rights had been violated did not stop that painful sting of rejection or ease the queasy, sleazy uneasy feelings of low self-esteem. However, during the 6 months I had worked at my late life career, I had gleaned a new perspective on the meaning of life and certainly had tested my mettle. The contractor I worked for with due diligence and respect would provide many a humorous character study in the near future as would the some of co-workers she had provided me with. Indeed the circumstances of my dismissal could be the basis for a prime time sitcom. Suddenly I laughed aloud as I neared my cabin, --“Oh my! I have been hysterically disenfranchised. “

Wasn't it Freud who claimed the standard diagnosis for women was "hysterical". I do hope things are ok, Sallycat.

Do keep writing that character into his sitcom. When I left my last job, oh boy, did I write a whopper or ten about that place.

But it's when people look you in the eye and say one thing only to act in another. That brings out some good art.

Are you going to share with us? Satire?

I better leave some love here, too.

    LOL

I'm not sure you can call yourself historical just yet.

Hi Sally, it's good to hear from you again. So the work force gets in the way, but I don't think the thoughts ever leave... writing in your head. Hopefully you'll have time soon enough for them to fill up pages. I've missed your words.

Let me know once there's something new in the works. Write when you can.

Sally! Do you still come by these parts? It's been so long since we were last in touch.

How have you been? Would love to comment on your poetry, but it won't let me because you've been away for too long.

I hope this finds you well.

    Take care,

    Alia
