Journal: Interview -------------------------------------------Mood: Still Bored “What do you think you’ll bring to the position?” the potential future employer asks.
Thinking slowly and I know I am wringing my hands, I hurry and hold up my hands, and say , “My hands.” I am very serious.
An odd look and she asks me to explain further, I smile bright, hoping a good smile will do the trick…even as Jewl’s song “Hands” enters my head and her soft voice sings, “My hands are small I know, but they’re not your’s. they’re my own.”
“I want to learn and I am very enthusiastic about doing just that. I don’t have the opportunity to do that at my current job. Here, I’d get to that.”
She glances me over and I become conscious of the rip in my stocking at the back of my ankle that I had hoped my heel would cover… “Ma’am, I am a good worker, organized, and I learn quickly hands-on. I like being around people, with people, and some day after I have finished my degree I want to join the peace corps.”
Finally a smile from her since we shook hands in greeting. “Humanitarianism appeals to me.”
Forty minutes past that, and as stupid as I may have sounded, I made it to having a second interview next week.
