    Journal: Interview
    -------------------------------------------
    Mood: Still Bored

“What do you think you’ll bring to the position?” the potential future employer asks.

Thinking slowly and I know I am wringing my hands, I hurry and hold up my hands, and say , “My hands.” I am very serious.

An odd look and she asks me to explain further, I smile bright, hoping a good smile will do the trick…even as Jewl’s song “Hands” enters my head and her soft voice sings, “My hands are small I know, but they’re not your’s. they’re my own.”

“I want to learn and I am very enthusiastic about doing just that. I don’t have the opportunity to do that at my current job. Here, I’d get to that.”

She glances me over and I become conscious of the rip in my stocking at the back of my ankle that I had hoped my heel would cover… “Ma’am, I am a good worker, organized, and I learn quickly hands-on. I like being around people, with people, and some day after I have finished my degree I want to join the peace corps.”

Finally a smile from her since we shook hands in greeting. “Humanitarianism appeals to me.”

Forty minutes past that, and as stupid as I may have sounded, I made it to having a second interview next week.

Thank you for the awesome comment on that god-awful sestina... yeah, it is 6 lines in 6 stanzas, and the pattern runs ABCDEF, FAEBDC, CFDABE, etc., doing that back-and-forth grabbing the last word thing... I appreciate the kind things you said. It's my first, and altho I bragged to someone that I was working on my 2nd one right now, GOD HOW I LIED! I don't EVER want to do THAT again! ROFLMAO!

And after a comment that cool, I would bow too. :)

I liked your journal entry, btw, nice touch, very real... congrats btw. Also, I was once told it was down to me and "another girl" and did I want to add anything else to my interview, to make a more memorable impression? This was my last chance, after all... So I asked what time my competition was coming for HER second interview, and which of the 3 doors she'd be entering the building, most likely? The HR person looked at me all stupid, like, I don't know, why do you want to know that? And I said, so I can just meet her at the door and explain to her this is MY job, and that she can turn around and go home... That's what you're saying, right? She's in my way??? I can take care of that...

Boy, did I make an impression. I even got the job, although I think it was because HR director was leaving and rather mad at the company and put me there as a last revenge on her part... She was gone right after that.

Oh man, that sucks :( Where are you again? I'm always looking for a broken man to drag home with me... He sounds like an unclaimed, unloved puppy with no couch to sit on anymore :( De-flea him, stroke him behind his ears and feed him well a couple of weeks, he'll make someone a nice companion.

How did he do it, anyway?

I've been thinking of a friend who was in the same situation when his wife left him (she was the over=achiever of the family, tho), and he came home at Christmas with her gift to find she'd wiped him out of every stick of furniture, including the bed. He lingered for about a 1.5 years, then OD'd on heroin this past January. Every time I think of it too much I start crying myself sick and wishing I could skip the upcoming anniversary. I know too many dead people anymore :(
