I'd rise to leave her sleeping years ago
when she imparted poetry to me
and torn between her form and artistry
I'd pen for hours the love we came to know.
She gave me ballads with the gentle flow
of days when laughter wove our memories.
I thought to craft her eyes and mystery
in sonnets even time could not unsew.
How apt that since her death I cannot write
but leaf through grief and trace her grace in books
of poems that we lived when we were one.
A fool to leave her side those many nights;
the words just glimpses of the light she took.
She held the blinding beauty of the sun.
Actually...oh, I won't say it.
But yes, I am no longer under a self-imposed deadline. The relief is nice.
And if you've read Good Omens, we need to talk about it.
