That's a very interesting idea that rules of writing can be broken. I shall try it at some point, but right now I have it to far pound into me by English teachers. I'm sure if I turned in something the way your write it, my teacher would kick my ass. And I don't think she would care that some awesome writer on ES said it was ok. However, I will dedicate a writing to try to write freely with out fallowing all the rules.
If you were to look at an x-ray of certain Vermeer paintings, you would see previous versions of the final work -- sometimes whole objects were painted over. Same is true for Picasso's the Old Guitarist. Initially, it was a woman, not a man.
Obviously some artists are harder on their own work than others, but most have taken instruction, criticism and/or editting to some degree; either by their own hand or someone elses or both.
A painting hung in a gallery I would say is equivalent to a poem being published. Then the only criticism it can recieve is like or dislike and hopefully never inbetween. There is usually a long history of work before that one that never made it to the wall or printers.
So even natural talent needs honing.
I like to think this site is a writer's workshop -- it isn't, always, but it still seems odd to me to post writing you have no intentions to improve, either by yourself alone or someone else's help.
Anyway -- I take art/poetry too seriously. That's what my boyfriend tells me. I guess what matters is if you're satisfied with your work, which you seem to be and that's a beautiful thing.
Thank you for the comment on 'moonshine.' Again, glad you enjoyed my writing. And thank you also for sharing a bit of yours. I can see the connection. :)
I really enjoyed your thoughts on my poems and am so glad you came by. Now it will be my treat to read your work. And since I admire your own poems so much, your comments recharged my poet's battery just right.
