This was a piece written to end a role play character. One of my all time best friends decided to leave role playing for good. She asked me to write her character out of the story. I almost couldn't bear to do it, however, I couldnt' deny the honor either. elesaria was the most beautiful creation I had ever come across and her typist Sylvia even moreso.

The actual story. A slave girl (elesaria) whom had fallen in love with her Mistress (Syndl) is given her freedom. A violent past and tumultuous history, the pair have endured years together as friends, lovers and soulmates. In the end, the man that ruined both their lives has his final revenge.

His face loomed in front of her. Sneering with a cold and callous gleam in His eye that chilled her blood. When He spoke she almost shuddered against it. That voice... His voice... sultry, deep, enticing. He taunted her with his words. Promises of a time that would never come to pass. His promises were always laced with threats and betrayal, an underlying river of hollow words to tempt and lure her. His perfect image burned in her mind's eye as she thrashed against the sheets that held her captive. Even in her dreams He haunted her.

The young girl slipped effortlessly down the dirt path. She'd traveled it so many times in the past year she knew it well enough to walk it blind. Every rock and turn were etched in her memory like a map in plain sight. And rightly so, she needed it this night. Her heart raced, pounding in her ears with each step she took. Doubt manifested inside her. Could she tell her? How? She wasn't strong enough to do this, she couldn't... She should leave, that would be easier. More than once her small, slippered feet paused and turned around only to stop again as her resolve strengthened and she continued on her journey. elesaria had to tell her. Had to apologize to Syndl. Her betrayal could not go unexplained she couldn't live with herself if one more secret went by unspoken. Tonight she would share it all.

"Life is a gift, Syndl. One that can be given or taken away. Foolishness will not grant you such gifts nor will blind compassion. Only those strong enough to survive will reap the riches from the weak. And those that align themselves with power will know what it is to wield it themselves."

That glint in his cold, blue eyes pierced her heart as she hung on his every word. How blind and stupid she was...so naive. She'd succumbed to his every whim and he'd played her like a puppet. Pulling the strings along behind him as it suited the moment or whatever perverse fascination struck him.

The moon rose high above elesaria's head as she made her way along the winding trail. She crested a small hill and paused. The cottage lays just around the next bend. Fear held her captive, immobilizing every muscle. She couldn't, she must... maybe she wouldn't understand. What if she grew more angry? No matter, elesaria owed it to her and no price would keep her from making sure it was done. A deep sigh and she continued on.

"You cut your ties here and now. He is no son of MINE nor will he be yours!"

A flash of steel was all she saw before the blinding pain as the sword cut into the pregnant swell of her stomach. Blood gushed from the gash and too shocked to even cry out, Syndl stumbled backwards slipping off the end of his blade. Icy blue watched with a hint of a smile as she crumpled to the ground, hands clutching at the gaping wound in a vain attempt to save her unborn son's life.

"Remember, YOU asked for this. Not I."

Later she awoke, bathed....healed and her son alive inside her. He stood over her. He'd granted her this life back, given her this treasure once more. Surely some hidden emotion resided within him that she could yet find and nurture. Not all was lost, it could still be recovered. Surely....

elesaria's hand closed over the door's handle and she slipped inside the cottage. She lingered a moment just inside. In the dim moonlight she could make out the furniture. Nothing had changed since she'd last set foot in here. It was as if she'd never left. A well of emotion sprung into her throat. How could she have done this?! This was her home..her life and She...she was her family. The only one that had ever loved ele, the only one she'd ever loved in return.

Tears brimmed in her eyes and she moved swiftly across the floor crossing the room into the hall. Nothing could stop her now, the moment of truth had come and elesaria had no desire to stay it any longer. Syndl would be in their room, most likely ready for sleep.

He held a knife to the young child's throat. The boy was only a babe, still suckling and here he was playing a part in one of His morbid games. A pawn, His own son was nothing more than a pawn, a tool to wield, to exact whatever torture He could from her. The child's screaming wails wrenched her heart in two. Too terrified to move and too willful to remain still, the assassin was torn.

"Let us play a little game, shall we...?"

"Let him go... can you not see he is no threat to you?"

"No threat?! He is MY spawn. Should I raise him to hate you....to seek you out in life and destroy whatever piece of mind you have left? He is MY son and I will do with him what I will. Do YOU see...? It is a game, one you are sorely losing, Syndl. And one I grow tired of..."

The knife plunged into the child's neck while at the same time she unleashed her own blade.

The woman slept. A loose veil of dark, ebony tresses framed her pale face. They fell in a soft arc across her eyes and nose and were a stark contrast to her alabaster skin. But her ragged breath and tossing body were a sudden indicator that peace had not found her in sleep. elesaria's hand stretched out to wake her from the dream...or nightmare.

Syndl lunged forward, her knife plunging down towards his heart. All she could see was red, the blood of her son mingling with her own and His. He would die...Kitiaro Bloodbane would die.

Elesaria never saw it and surely never felt the searing pain as the steel cut through her skin. As Syndl awoke from the dream, the knife imbedded itself in the girl's chest. Bolting awake, the first thing Syndl saw was a pair of eyes. Not the icy blue of His that she expected but the soft, chocolate brown of elesaria's. Her tender touch fluttered against Syndl's cheek and a smile graced her perfect face. In the silvery glow of moonlight she was a vision of ephemeral beauty. Milky white skin framed by thick, midnight black curls and fathomless eyes. Syndl leaned forward to sit up...could she still be dreaming?

She felt it first before she saw it, the sticky warm wetness that seeped through the girl's thin dress and leaked onto her own hand. Then the coppery sweet scent found her nose and soon the crimson bloom became apparent even in the dim shadowed light of night.

    "Oh gods! No! ele... No!"

Syndl grasped the hilt of her own blade and struggled with whether or not to pull it free. In a quick, deft movement she removed the instrument from the girl's chest. Elesaria never made a sound, even when her face paled beyond life and the light seemed to ebb from her eyes she remained passive.

"Shh...I am home. I am with you."

Her life faded from her before the last of the words slipped from her mouth. Clutching the body to her chest, Syndl cried out in pain and anguish. What horror had been disposed upon her now? The only true thing in her life to be wrenched so horribly from her and by her own hand.

"No... no...NO! not like this... do not take this life from me! She did nothing wrong! NOTHING! She was innocent...it should have been me. Not her.... Oh gods, not her!"
