Description:

The innocence of children has always been a mystery

Paper Wings

When paper wings fly above
The upturned head of a child,
Those solemn eyes follow with love,
Cloudy with dream dust.

The starlit pools of endless wonder
Follow the sky, the river of light
On which those paper wings dip up and under
And silently glide and sparkle and shine

That other-world where one can float
That world of dreams, of innocence
Those eyes and wings shall gladly go
Within to rest and thrive

Those paper wings trail threads
Of hope and of love, of childhood
And those solemn eyes follow to tread
To forever and beyond, to storyland

Where the paper wings land is nowhere
And also everywhere, wherever the wind may turn
And all the while, the world sings clear;
The songs of laughing children fill the air.

I know it seems awfully cliché..but this was beautifully done.
You really placed the words just right, you painted the picture and there I was...years ago ...wondering what it would be like to be where I am now.

The innocence of children, I love how honest they are. They dont know what being ashamed is, they arnt afraid to tell you what they think. Embarrasment hasnt been filed into their emotions, "being cool" isnt in their worry, problems float away on paper wings.

You took so many of us back to then, I still have my own little world...but you made us remember when the world around us didnt matter...it was our world. Wherever the wind may turn.

take care

  hey Aetha

This like your other poems, is beautiful and unique. I got goose-bumps just reading it, how silly. I miss those days when you could be fasinated by the lilting and tilting of a kite, riding the winds of grace. Honestly, being a kid is fun, I really have no idea why anyone would want to grow-up. Oh well, you know what they say, growing-old is mandatory, growing-up is optional, lol

Take Care

I miss when I was still a child. I'm a teenager, but all that innocence of seeing things in awe, and the wonder of everything around, even the slightest sound...it's all grown so dim. And very little can brighten it up again. The feeling of loosing that child-like innocence is like living your life in a world of nothing but gray, sun-less days. So we go and try to create artificial light to make us happy. It's all fake any more and very rarely is it when I'm actually happy.
Anyway, your poem reminded me about that feeling, because it's about that feeling and you did a fine job in the wording of it. It was nothing more and nothing less, but it amountede to something in some way that I can't quit describe. Anyway, peace.
