It sounds like a Palestinian might have tried to shoot at the circling Israeli Helo - notably the shots came after the missiles had already been launched from the helicopter. There is no justification for a missile strike on a nonviolent protest. That Apache(?) Helo? Those surface to air missiles? This apartheid situation? That couldn't be done without America supplying arms and aid to Israel, just like Iran and Syria do to Hezbollah. Why am I so focused on the Middle East Conflict (especially when there is so much strife in other places - say, Somalia which is in active civil war)? Because this blood is on my fucking hands. Because I think its a dangerous and disgusting precedent to use one instance of ethnic cleansing (The Holocaust - and it did happen numbnuts) to justify another. And most importantly, because if Americans hadn't buried their heads in the sand in 1939, that shit wouldn't have happened either!

"I want no one to sleep at night in Gaza. I want them to know what it feels like." - Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert

"No protected person may be punished for an offence he or she has not personally committed." - Fourth Geneva Convention, Article 33

"Israel may have the right to put others on trial, but certainly no one has the right to put the Jewish people and the State of Israel on trial."
-- Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, 25 March, 2001 quoted in BBC News Online

Ironically the 4th Geneva Convention was a response to the Nazi slaughter of defenseless Jews. The SS maintained that it as well was accountable only to its own courts. Hopefully the world won't stand around and wait for a repeat of what they did.
I'm tempted to join the military just so I can be involved in the inevitable War Crimes Trials that will prove him wrong...

"When we say that the Arabs are the aggressors and we defend ourselves ---- that is only half the truth. As regards our security and life we defend ourselves. . . . But the fighting is only one aspect of the conflict, which is in its essence a political one. And politically we are the aggressors and they defend themselves." - David Ben-Gurion
NB: Ben-Gurion was a truly compassionate man who was perhaps blinded by his own zealotry - it must have been very difficult for him to accept this sort of neocolonial defense (ie, we protect ourselves from the Indians, but they attack us because we are taking their land). He is known as the 'Armed Prophet,' and I personally admire him greatly, altho my hero-worship has never been uncritical.

    I'm just not the type
To get caught up in the hype
    Of my idea trumps yours
So my living trumps you life -
    Fuck strife -
People deserve to live in peace and be happy
And the Governors who disagree are free to suck on Mr. Taffy -
    Fuck al-Qadafi;
    And what's more fuck Sharon
Fuck every bullied bitch who wants to make the world His own
Because the Bully becomes a teacher
Then the Bullied becomes a feature
Of the same fucked up struggle
Of which the powerful are leachers -
I'd like to be a preacher
But i'm not so sure I'm right
That I would use any God's name to mobilize men to Fight -
    Neither Yahweh or Allah
    Buddha or Shambala
Want any more children toting guns to get into Valhalla -
I came dressed for the Gala
    In these raggedy chains
And now the party's jumping off
    And my raggedy brain
    Is still pumpin -
Waiting for midnight and all the pumpkins
That I'll smash like Billy Corgan if they wanna get Into something
    Who's fronting?
And Who the hell really wants peace?
And who ever speaks for the kids of the whole Middle East?
Those brought up in bunkers or in straight prison camps,
I watched a vid yesterday that made my whole vision damp -
This shit is like a ramp -
    All covered in ice:
    Atrocities of other days
    Justify the same these nights
    Is it insane to fight
    Small arms with cruise missiles,
With bombed out bridges and witholding of the vitcuals?
Ya, people died, on both sides, that's no lie -
But one people lived there and one people came on The fly -
Would you support Native Americans fighting the white man?
Or would you say that people have a right to wotever they can -
    Defend?
    Well that depends
For myself I choose neither -
Can't we all get along without exposing our evil?
    I guess I'm a moral high-achiever because I think they should share -
Holy land of three faiths man you gotta be fair!
    What about split governance
    About equal rights in Israel?
How about not making Palestine look like jail?
How about Iran and Syria and America too,
Stop pumping in weapons and turning arabs on jews?
How bout some honest talk about collective punishment?
How bout some war crimes indictments on the cats who's running it?
How about 2006 looks like 1939?
And once again America is acting like it don't mind -
    What's that?
The military is the governments' band,
And without the people's support the government
    Couldn't stand,
So all the blood shed from our weapons is on our hands!
If you can sleep well with that,
    I envy your rest man.

ok let me start by saying the ending gave me this image of a beatnickesque person with a powerpoint presentation as all of this is being said. This peace is amazing. How many times in the history of this human race, are there accounts of inhuman acts resulting in bloodshed wheather over different faiths or biased thinking. The Crusades, The INquisition, The Reconquesta, World War 1 & 2, The American Civil War, and so on and so on and so on... It's as if the only thing history teaches us is that these people who lead the world into these eras of violence are arrogant, rash, violent and closed minded to the point where they can't see that all this bloodshed can and will never make a better world for their brothers, sisters, and offspring to live in.

what baffles my mind is how in this particular case this conflict has gone on for I dont even know how many days, weeks, months years etc... If I learned nothing else from the events leading up to, during and following WW II, it's the moment you believe you are better then some one you have signed off on your own downfall.

This piece just flows so well, I could connect with the distaste for the parties involved in this sensless violence. What baffles my mind is if you believe in a god or gods then you must have faith that everyone on this earth is of that gods creation. So what I don't understand is why one group feels that they have the correct image of him or her. Resulting in their belief that the way the worship and try to live under this god is the only way and that gives them the right to destroy his other creations.
I'm just waiting for the day in which a enws bulletin comes screaming over all the media channels informing us of the nuclear blast that whipes them both out and making the whol are unlivable. I'm sad to say I would not be surprised by it, but I would grieve for those lost.

Sorry for ranting but this piece just struck a chord within me. Very powerful indeed my friend.
