I see a lot of double dutch in my neighborhood (for some reason the little black girls do that a lot more than the white girls - dunno why). A cute little piece.

"You know it don't come easy." Yeah, what he said. The rhythm of life is death to a perfectionist because the fear of failure leaves no margin of error and the stress of multitasking even the most basic job usually induces the failure most secretly dread.

In other words, accept the flop, enjoy the ride and jump back in.

Nice little trip before the fall.
    Bill.

the poem has a really childlike simplicity, the repitition and quick fire lines reflecting the action it's describing - the sort of harmony of image and tone that makes a good poem.

and from your description i assume it's got to be taken as an analogy of the the way we go through life trying to keep up with the constant rhythm and routine and momentum of modern life - something that as impossible to do constantly as eternally playing double dutch is, eventually we're bound to trip as the pace inevitably carries on beyond us.

though, it's not always quite as fun.

    thanks for sharing.

I liked this one! I felt like it was me in the street with a bunch of friends, and trying to compete to see who could stay in the longest. Though I have never done double dutch, I have seen many peope do it and it really does create a wonderful, childlike image. I like!
